Maverick Golfers Move Up at NCAA West Regional

AMARILLO, Texas - Armana Christianson shot a four-over par 76 to lead the UNO golf team on day two of the NCAA West Regional. The Mavericks moved up one spot to eighth place by shaving 15 strokes off their team score from the previous day.
The Mavericks will tee off in the final round tomorrow just after 10 a.m. The top three teams and the top two individuals not with those three teams will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship at Grand Valley State.
The Mavericks shot 318 on Monday after an opening round of 333. Tarlton State continues to lead the tournament with a two-day score of 610. The Texanns shot a top score of 303 on Monday. Western Washington is second at 625 followed by St. Edward's at 627. Central Oklahoma is in striking distance of a top-three spot with a team score of 629.
Christianson went out in 39, carding a birdie and four bogeys. She was particularly steady on the inward nine, posting only one bogey while parring the other eight holes to close with a 37. She now has a two-day score of 158, good for a tie for 14th place.
Dani Suponchick, who posted UNO's best score in round one, shot 83 in round two and is now tied with teammate Ricca Soper at 164. Soper shot a 79 on day two, second only to Christianson on the team. Soper had an up-and-down back side, carding two birdies, two bogeys and one double to close with a 38 after a 41 on the front. She and Suponchick are tied for 36th overall.
Rebecca Pollock shot an 80 in round two and is in fourth for the Mavs, one stroke behind Suponchick and Soper with a 165 for the tournament. That puts her in a tie for 40th overall. Amy Powell was fifth for UNO with a second-round score of 83 and a total score of 170 for the tournament.
