Maverick Duo Earns ABCA All-Region Awards

2011 Rawlings/ABCA South Central All-Region Team
OMAHA, Neb. – Junior right-handed pitcher Joe Holtmeyer and junior infielder Brady Hohl were named to the 2011 Rawlings/ABCA South Central All-Region Team, the ABCA has announced. Both Hohl and Holtmeyer garnered second-team honors.
Hohl, a two-time All-MIAA selection, had an outstanding junior season, batting .408 and starting all 55 games at shortstop and third base. The Millard North product led the Mavericks in hits (84) and runs scored (59) and was second in RBI (35) and third in doubles (11). Hohl also had five home runs and drew a team-best 23 walks as UNO's leadoff hitter while also stealing a team-high 15 stolen bases.
Holtmeyer compiled a record of 8-2 and a 4.56 ERA in his junior season. A product of Creighton Prep, he threw a team-high 71.0 innings and fanned 94 batters this year to lead the MIAA. Holtmeyer threw four complete games and had four performances in double-figure strikeouts. With a season-high 12 strikeouts at nationally-ranked Emporia State, he became UNO's all-time career strikeouts leader, and he now has 323 over three years. In 2010, Holtmeyer earned first-team All-America accolades and was the Division II strikeout leader while also being named ABCA South Central Regional Pitcher of the Year.
Additionally, Hohl has earned regional recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA), and he and Holtmeyer both took regional plaudits from Daktronics last week.
