Splichal Named Third-Team Academic All-District VI

OMAHA, Neb. – Sophomore baseball player Tyler Splichal was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District VII Third Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday. It marks the first academic all-district honor of his career.
Splichal, an infielder from Bellevue, carries a 3.41 grade-point average in chemistry with emphases in medicinal chemistry and pre-pharmacy. A UNO Regents Scholar, he is a member of Delta Epsilon Iota Honors Fraternity and is a member of the Dean's List.
In his sophomore season, Splichal has batted .340 with a team-leading 11 doubles. He has also tallied five home runs, 32 runs scored and 26 runs batted in, and he ranks nationally as the seventh-most difficult batter to strike out. Splichal also helped Nebraska Omaha to a record of 30-16 and a mark of 26-14 in league play.
As a freshman in 2010, Splichal earned second-team All-MIAA recognition and was named MIAA Freshman of the Year while also being named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
UNO hosts Missouri Western in its final homestand of the 2011 season this weekend at the Ballpark at Boys Town. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch, with Senior Day festivities honoring the Mavericks' five seniors between games. Sunday's doubleheader is slated for Noon.
