Benefit Game on Tap For This Weekend

OMAHA, Neb. - Nine National Hockey League players, along with a dozen former University of Nebraska Omaha players will take the ice Sunday, Aug. 28 to help the Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame Foundation raise funds to fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy with a benefit hockey game at the Moylan Tranquility Ice Plex.
The 2 p.m. game is open to the public. Tickets are $10 in advance and are on sale at Tranquility, located at 122 and West Maple Streets. Game day tickets will be $15. Doors will open at 1 p.m. Also included will be numerous silent auction items including game-worn jerseys from a variety of college teams.
The list of NHL players slated for action include former Omaha Lancer and UNO standout Dan Ellis, former Mav Scott Parse and former Lancer and Omaha native Jed Ortmeyer. Ellis is now with the Anaheim Ducks, Parse with the Los Angeles Kings and Ortmeyer with the Minnesota Wild.
The other NHL players include Brandon Prust, New York Rangers; Mark Olver, Colorado Avalanche; Warren Peters, Minnesota Wild, Ryan Potulny, Washington Capitals; Erik Gustafsson, Philadelphia Flyers, and Jason Williams, Pittsburgh Penguins. Prust and Peters are former Omaha Knights in the AHL.
Former Mavericks who will participate include David Brisson, Colin Strom, Derek Reynolds, James Chalmers, Mike Skogland, Kendall Sidoruk, Allan Carr, Tom Shaffer, Jason Cupp, Billy Pugliese, Christian Graham and Rob Facca.
The inspiration for the game was to help former UNO hockey player Rob Facca and his wife Nikki, whose son, Louie, was diagnosed with Duchenne disease, a form of muscular dystrophy that strikes one in 3,500 children. Facca, currently an assistant coach at Western Michigan University, requested that donations be made to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, to support research into Duchenne disease.
