Blais, Americans Ready For Evaluation Camp

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - UNO hockey coach Dean Blais will begin the process of choosing his team for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship this weekend. The 2011 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp begins Saturday morning at the Olympic Center.
Blais and his staff will be assessing 44 players at the camp which runs from Aug. 6 to 13. During that time, the U.S. will play games against Sweden and Finland which are also holding their evaluation camps in Lake Placid.
The final team will be chosen in late December following a pre-tournament camp to be held in Alberta.
This is the second time in the last three years that Blais has coached the U.S. Junior Team. In 2010, he led the Americans to the Gold Medal with a stunning 6-5 overtime win over Canada in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It was just the second gold ever for the U.S. in the tournament.
Blais is joined in Lake Placid by his UNO equipment manager Mark Pane and Director of Hockey Operations, Nick Fohr who is the video coordinator for Team USA. Both will serve in the same capacities when the World Junior Tournament begins on Dec. 26 in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.
Blais' assistant coaches include Scott Sandelin, head coach of Minnesota Duluth; Tom Ward, the head coach of Shattuck-St. Mary's School's boys' prep team; and Joe Exter, assistant coach at Ohio State.
