The UNO women's basketball team (10-7) will look to earn its second road win in as many tries against Summit League opponents this year when it travels to face the UMKC Kangaroos on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Swinney Recreation Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Mavs are coming off an 84-33 win over Dallas Christian on Monday. The 51-point win was the largest since 2007, and the Mavs snapped their first two-game losing skid of the season with the win. Under first-year head coach Chance Lindley, UNO has already won two more games than it did all of last year when it finished 8-18.
Series History
UMKC leads the all-time series 2-1, but the teams haven't played since 1987. The Kangaroos won the last matchup, 72-68, on Dec. 11, 1987 in Kansas City. The Kangaroos are 2-0 against the Mavericks at home.
Last Time Out
OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team cruised past Dallas Christian on Monday night at the Sapp Fieldhouse, 84-33. The Mavericks (10-7) snapped their first two-game losing skid of the season in style, jumping out to a 33-7 lead in the first 12 minutes after connecting on 12 straight field goals midway through the half. And the Mavs never looked back from there while limiting Dallas Christian (4-11) to a season-low point total for a UNO opponent. The Mavs' 51-point margin of victory was the most since a 59-point win at Chaminade on Dec. 31, 2007.
Amanda Woodring led the Mavericks with 15 points on 5-of-8 from 3-point range, while Stacia Gebers chipped in 14 points and five rebounds. All 10 Mavericks who played in the game had a field goal, and nine players had six or more points as the Mavericks shot a season-high 51.6 percent (33-of-64). Defensively, UNO held the undermanned Lady Crusaders - with no substitutes available to play - to 20.8 percent (10-of-48) from the field, another season-best effort for the Mavericks.
The Coaches
Chance Lindley is in his first year as the Mavericks' head coach. The 35-year-old Lindley comes to UNO from Arizona, where he was an assistant for three years. Lindley's first collegiate head coaching gig came at Barton County Community College, where he went 34-4 in 2007-08 before moving on to Arizona. Lindley graduated cum laude from Wichita State in 2000 with a degree in physical education. Lindley is assisted by Jason Flores, in his eighth year at UNO, and first-year UNO coaches Shanele Stires and Elena Lovato.
Candace Whitaker is in her sixth year as the head coach at UMKC. Whitaker is 72-86 overall at the school and in her career. She is a 2002 graduate of Texas Tech. Whitaker is assisted by Bruce Erickson, Meredith Doyle and Wyketha Harrell.
Scouting the Opponents
The Kangaroos are 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the Summit League. UMKC is 7-1 at home this season and has won six games in a row. Senior Dayon Hall-Jones leads the 'Roos with 19.3 points per game. Hall-Jones scored 43 points in a 92-79 win over Oral Roberts on Dec. 31, hitting 16-of-25 from the field and 9-of-10 from 3-point range. Hall-Jones ranks 11th in the nation at 43.5 percent from 3-point range. Kim Nezianya scores 10.9 points per game, and Eilise O'Connor averages 9.3 points and 6.2 assists per game. O'Connor was a Summit League All-Newcomer Team selection last year after leading UMKC in scoring and assists.

1) Monday's 51-point win over Dallas Christian was the most since a 59-point win, 108-49, at Chaminade on Dec. 31, 2007. For the first time this year, all 10 Mavericks scored.
2) The Mavericks shot a season-best 51.6 percent (33-of-64) from the field against Dallas Christian. Defensively, UNO held the Lady Crusaders to 20.8 percent (10-of-48), also a season-best effort by the Mavs.
3) UNO is 9-0 this year when outrebounding its opponent.
4) Paige Frauendorfer leads UNO with 13.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Frauendorfer has a team-high seven double-doubles this year and has set career highs in points (24) and rebounds (15).
5) Freshman Cathleen Cox came off the bench and scored a career-high 23 points in a 64-62 win over Missouri Western on Saturday, Dec. 31. Cox went 10-of-17 from the field and 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
6) Amanda Woodring hit a school-record eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 24 points against College of St. Mary on Dec. 7.
7) An incredible four Mavericks recorded double-doubles in a 72-70 overtime win over Northwest Missouri State on Dec. 10. Jamie Nash had a game-high 21 points and 11 assists; Paige Frauendorfer had 18 points and 14 rebounds; Heather Pohl had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Rese Huddlin had 11 points and 13 rebounds, with eight coming on the offensive end.
Paint Producing Results
The Mavericks are 10-1 this year when winning the battle in the paint and are 0-6 when not outscoring their opponents in the lane. During a four-game winning streak in early December, the Mavericks dominated play in the paint, posting a combined 156-46 advantage for an average of 39.0-10.6 per game.
Battling on the Boards
The Mavericks are 9-0 this year when outrebounding their opponent, and UNO has won the battle on the boards in seven of eight home games so far this season. UNO is 1-7 when not outrebounding its opponent.
Scanning the National Stats
Because of its reclassification period, Nebraska Omaha cannot be included in the official NCAA statistics during its first year in Division I. However, with 4.7 steals per game, Jamie Nash would rank second in Division I in that category. Quinnipiac's Felicia Barron leads the nation with 5.4 steals per game. The Mavs as a team average 12.5 steals per game, which would rank tied for 18th in the country.
Clamping Down on 'D'
The Chance Lindley era is still young, but already the Mavericks are showing improvements on last year's final defensive numbers. The Mavericks are allowing opponents 59.5 points per game, which is nearly 12 points better than last year's 71.3 average. UNO is also holding opponents to 27.3 percent from long distance. That's a significant upgrade from last year, when UNO's opponents shot 35.8 percent from 3-point range and the Mavs finished last in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Winning Numbers
Sixty has been the magic number so far for the Mavericks. When holding opponents under 60 points, the Mavericks are 8-1. And when scoring more than 60 points, the Mavericks are 10-1. UNO has fallen in all seven games that its trailed with five minutes to play. But UNO has played well with a lead this season. The Mavericks are 8-0 when leading at halftime and are 10-0 when tied or leading with five minutes left in regulation.
Record Seekers
Senior forward Heather Pohl and junior guard Jamie Nash are climbing the charts in UNO women's basketball history. Pohl ranks fourth in school history with 144 career 3-point field goals. She needs just 12 more to move into sole possession of third place. Pohl also moved into the top 10 in school history for career offensive rebounds at Loyola Chicago on Dec. 18. Pohl now has 152 career offensive boards to rank sixth all-time.
Meanwhile, Nash ranks fourth in school history with 241 career steals. She needs three more to take sole possession of third place and 24 to move into second place. The school record is 331, set by Kriss Edwards from 1977-81. Nash also entered the top 10 this season in career assists with 315, which ranks her seventh.
Mavericks Reclassify to Division I
Nebraska Omaha announced in March 2011 its plan to reclassify from NCAA Division II to Division I, beginning with the 2011-12 school year. UNO, which was previously a member of the MIAA, accepted an invitation to join The Summit League and will compete as a full-fledged member with a regular-season conference schedule in 2012-13.
