Mavs Add Stegman to 2013 Signing Class

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha softball head coach Jeanne Scarpello has signed five recruits to national letters of intent to join the Mavericks in the 2013-14 school year. Megan Stegman signed late with the Mavericks and will be a freshman in 2013-14, along with four others.
All five of the Maverick signees are high school seniors, with three coming from Nebraska, one from Missouri and one from Kansas.
"We're thrilled to have these five outstanding players join the Maverick softball program," Scarpello said. "Each one adds a new dimension to our team, and we are excited about their futures. They all possess outstanding character and a tremendous work ethic."
Three of the signees come from the Omaha area. Infielder Nicole Warren was a standout at Papillion-La Vista South, while Lia Mancuso starred at Omaha Central playing both outfield and infield. All-around player Lizzie Noble joins the Mavericks after a record-breaking career at Bennington, while pitcher Cheyenne Baxter brings her 6-0 frame from Norbone High School in Norborne, Mo., about 60 miles east of Kansas City, and Megan Stegman brings a versatile resume from Washington, Kan.
The Mavericks went 24-18 in their first Division I season last year. This year, the Mavs will play a full Summit League schedule for the first time. UNO opens the season on Feb. 8 at the UNCW Beach Blast in Wilmington, N.C.
2013 Omaha Softball Signing Class
Cheyenne Baxter, P, 6-0, R/R, Norborne, Mo. (Norborne)
Was a four-year starter at Norborne High School in Missouri under coach Jason McKinney and served as team captain for three years…earned first-team all-conference honors and was named Pitcher of the Year as a senior in 2012…was also a second-team all-state pitcher and a first-team all-region selection, helping the Pirates to a 20-2 record…as a junior and sophomore, was a first-team all-conference, all-district and all-region selection, and was a second-team all-state infielder as a junior after a 26-1 season for Norborne…earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors as a freshman starting at shortstop…was a member of National Honor Society, the CLLA Conference All-Academic Team and FFA…played club softball with Originals '95 under coach Jeff Jeffries…also starred in basketball and ran track…born May 3, 1995 in Marshall, Mo….daughter of Jeff and Barbara Baxter…has two sisters, Austin and Morgan…considering a major in accounting or business.
Lia Mancuso, OF/IF, 5-9, L/R, Omaha, Neb. (Omaha Central)
Was a four-year starter at Omaha Central under coach Ryan Neel…set the Nebraska Class A record with a .609 batting average in her junior season in 2011 and tied state records of four doubles in a game and five total hits in a game…finished with 18 doubles and three triples…in her senior year, hit .465 and led her team in stolen bases for the fourth consecutive year...was named to the Midwest Sports All-Nebraska Team as a junior and senior…earned Omaha World-Herald Second-Team All-State honors and was an all-state honorable mention selection as a freshman and sophomore…was a member of National Honor Society and the Academic Honor Roll...played club softball for the Wichita Mustangs and most recently Omaha Fury Gold under coach Ron Jones…hit .471 in the leadoff spot and played shortstop, second base and outfield…won the 16U Kansas State Championship with the Wichita Mustangs…also played basketball and tennis…born March 26, 1995 in Omaha…daughter of Bob and Vania Mancuso…has two brothers, Bobby and Marco, and one sister, Bella…father, Bob, played baseball at Colorado and Iowa State and was an Academic All-American before playing professionally in Italy from 1983-84…plans to major in broadcasting/journalism.

Was a four-year starter at Bennington under coaches Clay Tibke and Jason Lura…helped the Badgers post a 105-26 record in her four years and set or tied nine school records, including single-season batting average (.518), single-season home runs (9), career home runs (20), single-season RBIs (54) and career RBIs (130)…as a senior in 2012, hit .518 with a 1.059 slugging percentage…played shortstop and pitcher…as a junior, hit .434 with a state-record 54 RBIs and dinged nine homers and pitched a 14-1 record with an 0.44 ERA, helping Bennington win 30 games in a row and finish 32-3…was a first-team all-state selection and a Lincoln Journal Star Super-State pick…led the Badgers to a Class B runner-up finish as a sophomore…was an honor roll student and a member of National Honor Society…played club softball for Nebraska Fury Gold under coach Mike Heard…club team finished ninth in the nation at the 16U ASA National Championships in Alabama…also played in the Omaha Quakes Organization and won three ASA state championships…also played basketball…born Elizabeth Noble on May 18, 1995 in Des Moines, Iowa…daughter of John and Stacey Noble…has two sisters, Michaela and Cassie…plans to major in pre-nursing.

Attended Washington County High School in Kansas, which didn't field a softball team...played club softball for Kansas Revolution and TEAM Nebraska under coach Darren Peterson...won numerous MVP medals and was a 16A World Series All-Star...won the 16A USSSA and ASA Kansas State Championships and placed in the top four in two national tournaments...was a member of the USSSA All-State Team...won the 14B USSSA and ASA Kansas State Championships...was a four-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, baseball and track for her high school...won the volleyball state championship in her senior year and was named to the all-state tournament first team and the all-state second team...was also an all-state honorable mention pick in basketball and was a state medalist in the 4x100 and pole vault...ranked first in her class with a 4.0 GPA...born April 25, 1995 in Liberal, Kan....daughter of Michael and Marcie Stegman...has one sister, Heidi, and one brother, Joe...mother, Marcie, lettered in cross country and track at Fort Hays State...plans to major in biology/pre-dentistry.

Was a four-year letterwinner at Papillion-La Vista South High School under coach Dan Hogan…as a senior in 2012, started at shortstop and hit .424 with a .538 on-base percentage…scored 48 runs and knocked home 33 RBIs while drawing 28 walks…was an Omaha World-Herald First-Team All-State selection and a Lincoln Journal Star Super-State pick…helped the Titans finish second in the Class A State Tournament with a 29-8 final record…was also a first-team all-state selection as a junior after hitting .463 with a .521 on-base percentage…showed her power with eight home runs…earned second-team all-state as a sophomore after hitting .426…played club softball for Nebraska Fury under coach Mike Heard…club team finished ninth in the nation at the 16U ASA National Championships in Alabama...was an honor roll student all four years and earned the Award of Academic Excellence in 2012…also participated in track…born Jan. 12, 1995 in Omaha…daughter of Mark and Connie Warren…has one sister, Erin, and two half-brothers, Mitch and Marshall…plans to major in business.
