OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's basketball team jumped all over UT Arlington early and raced to a 73-39 win on Friday night at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Carolyn Blair-Mobley scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Ericka House matched her career high with 17 points and nine rebounds, as the Mavericks (5-1) built a 38-9 lead toward the end of the first half and cruised to victory. UT Arlington dropped to 1-5 on the season.
The Mavericks have now held two straight opponents to fewer than 40 points for the first time since the 1975-76 season, when they allowed 38 and 34 in consecutive games. UNO limited UT Arlington to just 23.0 percent (14-of-61) from the field, a season-best defensive effort. The Mavs entered the game as the top shooting team in The Summit League and did nothing but help themselves with a 44.6-percent effort from the floor on 25-of-56 shooting.
Trailing 5-4 at the 17:33 mark, UNO went on a 34-4 run over the next 15:52 to stake a 29-point lead. The Mavericks shot 48 percent (14-of-29) from the floor in the first half and drained 5-of-12 from 3-point range to take a 38-14 lead at the half, while UT Arlington was stifled by UNO's defense, shooting just 18.2 percent (6-of-33) in the opening half.
Blair-Mobley scored 15 of her points in the first half on perfect shooting. She was 4-of-4 from the floor, including 3-of-3 from long distance, and went 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
In the second half, the Mavs kept their foot on the gas pedal. UNO scored the first five points of the half and led by as many as 37 at 70-33 with 4:24 remaining. UT Arlington never got closer than 26 in the second half. The Mavs' 34-point margin of victory was the largest against a Division I foe since their transition.
In addition to Blair-Mobley and House, Paige Frauendorfer reached double figures with 11 points and added seven rebounds, while Jamie Nash contributed 10 points. UNO finished 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range.
The Mavericks return to the Sapp Fieldhouse on Tuesday to host Tulsa at 7 p.m.
