Mavericks Reach Out in the Community

OMAHA, Neb. - Even with the 2012-13 season quickly approaching, the Omaha women's basketball team has found time to reach out in the community, recently spending time at the Boys & Girls Club in downtown Omaha and the Children's Hospital & Medical Center.
Eight members of the team and coach Jesyka Burks-Wiley visited the Boys & Girls Club and put on a basketball clinic for more than 50 girls. Each member of the Mavericks led a station that taught different skills, including shooting, passing and dribbling. Afterward, the Mavericks signed autographs and gave out UNO memorabilia.
The Boys & Girls Club aims to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, healthy and caring citizens, through the work of trained and educated development professionals and program specialists, as well as dedicated volunteers like the Omaha women's basketball team.
The Mavs also went to the Children's Hospital & Medical Center and went room to room visiting children. The players signed autographs and handed out memorabilia there as well. The Children's Hospital & Medical Center has a rich history based on community involvement and service to children, and the Mavs were honored to be able to volunteer their time at the hospital.
Carly Cator, Myhiah Dotzler, Paige Frauendorfer, Stacia Gebers, Ericka House, Taijhe Kelly, Zenta Liepa and Casse Vaughn were the Mavericks who were able to attend.
