The Omaha women's basketball team begins the regular season on Monday with a 7 p.m. contest at the Sapp Fieldhouse against the North Carolina A&T Aggies. The season opener begins an eight-game homestand for the Mavs to begin the season, and seven of those come against Division I teams. Last year, UNO hosted just two Division I games. The Teams
UNO enters the regular season coming off a 15-12 record in 2011-12. Last year was the Mavericks' first in their transition from Division II to Division I. This season, Omaha will be embarking on its first season with a full Summit League schedule. Although the Mavs will appear in the conference standings, they are not eligible for the conference tournament or postseason play until 2015-16. UNO played 12 of its 27 games against Division I teams last year, but this year will be considerably more difficult with 25 games against Division I foes and just three against non-Division I schools.
North Carolina A&T posted a 15-16 record last year and a 9-7 record in the MEAC, good for fifth place. Tarrell Robinson is a first-year head coach for the Aggies, who return four starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's squad. The Aggies started last year with a 6-2 record, including a 76-66 win over Clemson. But A&T lost 10 of its next 11 to get off track.

Monday's game will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Last Time Out
The Mavericks won an exhibition over Nebraska-Kearney last Wednesday, 56-37, at the Sapp Fieldhouse. Paige Frauendorfer led the Mavs with a double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds. Junior college transfer Ericka House chipped in 11 points, and Oklahoma State transfer Carolyn Blair-Mobley added seven points and 13 rebounds in the victory. Eleven of Frauendorfer's 16 boards came on the defensive end, as the Mavs posted a 47-35 rebounding advantage overall. House drained three 3-pointers to go toward her 11 points. Jamie Nash contributed eight points, nine assists and four steals. Taijhe Kelly also had eight points.

The Ragin' Cajuns ended the Mavs' season last year in heartbreaking fashion, sinking a game-winning 3-pointer with eight seconds left in overtime for a 62-60 win in Lafayette. Friday's game is the first of two for the Mavericks on the weekend, as UNO hosts Northern Arizona on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.

The Aggies have four starters back from last season's team that finished 15-16 overall and 9-7 in the MEAC. Tarrell Robinson is in his first year as head coach at A&T, but the Aggies have an experienced team with 12 letterwinners back from last year. The Aggies open their season on Friday in Lincoln against Nebraska, then travel up to Omaha to finish a two-game road swing Monday night against the Mavs. Senior guard JaQuayla Berry is the top returning scorer and rebounder with 14.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last season. She was an All-MEAC Second-Team selection last year and is a career 1,000-point scorer.
