Mavs Visit Arkansas-Pine Bluff in First Road Game

Game Notes
The Omaha women's basketball team plays its first road game of the season on Monday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. The Mavericks opened the season with eight straight games at home but will leave the familiar confines of the Sapp Fieldhouse for the first time this year when they take on the Lady Lions at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Teams
Omaha enters the contest with a 6-2 record, its best start since 2007-08 when the Mavs started 14-1 back in their Division II days. Chance Lindley is in his second year as the head coach of the Mavericks with a career record of 21-14. He is assisted by Rebecca Alvidrez, Brittany Lange and Jesyka Burks-Wiley.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff enters a game on Saturday at Wichita State with a 2-4 record. The Lady Lions notched wins over LeMoyne Owen and Philander Smith, both NAIA members. UAPB's losses have come to Kansas State, Alabama, UAB and Missouri. Nate Kilbert is in his first year as the head coach at UAPB but is in his 10th year overall as a head coach with a career record of 113-160.

OMAHA, Neb. - Paige Frauendorfer scored 18 points - 17 in the second half - and grabbed 13 rebounds, and the Omaha women's basketball team earned a 65-58 win over Loyola Chicago on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavs found themselves in another down-to-the-wire game at home, trailing 55-54 with under three minutes to play. But Casse Vaughn rebounded an errant 3-pointer by Ericka House and put it home for a 56-55 UNO lead with 2:56 to play, and the Mavs would never relinquish the lead again. Frauendorfer scored just one point in the first half after going 0-for-5 from the floor. But in the second half, she struck for 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. She also matched her season high with 13 rebounds. Jamie Nash played the entire game and added 16 points and seven assists to just three turnovers. House finished with 10 points and four rebounds, and Vaughn had nine points and four rebounds. The Mavericks committed 16 turnovers, but more importantly forced 14 turnovers by Loyola, who came into the game ranked No. 1 in Division I with just 11.7 turnovers per game. UNO scored 16 points off turnovers to just 11 for Loyola. The Mavs' bench stepped up big and outscored Loyola's bench, 21-2.

Sophomore guard Cathleen Cox suffered a torn ACL in practice early in December and will be out for the remainder of the 2012-13 season. Cox played in seven games and averaged 2.6 ppg and 1.9 rpg in 10.4 minutes per game off the bench. Cox had a solid freshman season in 2011-12, averaging 6.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game to earn All-Independent Freshman of the Year honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com.
