OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska Omaha athletic department is teaming up with Nebraska Organ Recovery System and the Omaha Police and Fire Departments to promote awareness of organ donation at the UNO hockey game against Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 24.
The event began with a campus-wide effort to register new donors. Those interested in registering can still do so on-line at www.nedonation.org. Current registered organ donors can purchase tickets for the game at a special price discounted by $5 by logging on to OmahasTeam.com.
At the game, Nebraska Organ Recovery will honor the families of donors and the recipients of donated organs. There also will be a booth at the game where fans can learn more about organ donation and register to be an organ donor. Nebraska Organ Recovery has set a goal of registering 700,000 donors statewide by July 1. Currently, the organization is 31,000 registrants short of that goal.
The Omaha Police and Fire Departments will take part in a station challenge to see which department can register the largest number of new donors.. The winner will receive a burrito bar courtesy of Qdoba.
For more information on becoming an organ donor, call Nebraska Organ Recovery at (402) 733-1800.
