PEORIA, Ariz. - The UNO men's golf team opened the spring season with a third-place finish at the Quintero Invitational hosted by North Dakota State on Tuesday.
The Mavericks closed with a team score of 330 in round two to post a two-day score of 663. Creighton won the three-team event with a score of 636, posting a team score of 314 in round two. NDSU finished at 650.
Karl Krieser led UNO in scoring for the tournament with a combined score of 164, good for a tie for sixth place. That put him one stroke ahead of teammate Mitch Johnson who finished eighth at 165. Krieser had an 85 on Tuesday while Johnson shot an 86.
Michael Shukis had UNO's low round of the day at 77 and finished with a two-day score of 167, putting him in a tie for 10th. Taylor Sidzyik had UNO's second-best score on Tuesday, carding an 82. He was fourth for UNO and 14th overall with a total score of 170. Alex Holtan completed the scoring with a two-day total of 178, good for 17th place.
UNO returns to action on March 18-20 at Midwestern State.
