The UNO Maverick women's basketball team will face old NCC rival and future Summit League foe South Dakota on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. The Mavs and Coyotes haven't played since Feb. 9, 2008, when South Dakota won in Omaha, 78-66.

UNO leads the all-time series 34-32, but South Dakota is 20-13 against UNO in Vermillion. The last time UNO played at South Dakota was Jan. 24, 2008, when the Coyotes beat the Mavs 78-57. UNO has not won in Vermillion since Feb. 2, 2006, an 85-83 overtime win. The Mavs have lost three straight games at the DakotaDome.

OMAHA, Neb. - Jamie Nash hit two free throws with 3.1 seconds left to give UNO a 69-68 win over Sioux Falls on Pink Night at the Sapp Fieldhouse on Thursday. The Mavericks led comfortably for most of the game, but Sioux Falls got hot from behind the arc and rallied from 18 down in the second half to take a 68-67 lead on an old-fashioned three-point play by Alyssa Rushton with 1:41 left. Heather Pohl grabbed a defensive board and handed it off to Nash with seven seconds left, and Nash raced up the middle of the court and drew a blocking foul on the Cougars' Jenny Hofer in the paint three feet from the rim with 3.1 seconds left. Cathleen Cox led all scorers with 20 points. Nash had 15.
The Coaches
Chance Lindley is in his first year as the Mavericks' head coach. The 35-year-old Lindley comes to UNO from Arizona, where he was an assistant for three years. Lindley's first collegiate head coaching gig came at Barton County Community College, where he went 34-4 in 2007-08 before moving on to Arizona. Lindley graduated cum laude from Wichita State in 2000 with a degree in physical education. Lindley is assisted by Jason Flores, in his eighth year at UNO, and first-year UNO coaches Shanele Stires and Elena Lovato.
Ryun Williams is in his fourth year as the head coach at South Dakota. Williams has a 68-45 record at USD and is 250-151 overall in his 14th year as a head coach. Williams is assisted by Ryan Larsen, Mandy Koupal and Brooke Atkinson.
Scouting the Opponents
South Dakota has won five straight Summit League games and is 15-6 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The Coyotes are a strong team at home with a 9-1 overall record. Their only loss came to Oral Roberts on Dec. 29, 66-53. South Dakota is led by Amber Hegge, who is averaging 18.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Hegge is the only Coyote averaging double figures, but Annie Roche (9.7 ppg) and Tempestt Wilson (9.4 ppg) are on the brink.
Maverick Roundup
1) Paige Frauendorfer leads UNO with 13.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Frauendorfer has a team-high nine double-doubles this year and has set career highs in points (24) and rebounds (15).
2) Jamie Nash is close behind Frauendorfer at 12.6 points per game. Nash also averages 6.3 assists per game and 4.4 steals per game, which ranks second in the nation.
3) The Mavericks are 12-2 this year when outrebounding their opponent, and UNO has won the battle on the boards in nine of 11 home games so far this season. UNO is 1-8 when not outrebounding its opponent.

Senior forward Heather Pohl and junior guard Jamie Nash are climbing the charts in UNO women's basketball history. Pohl ranks third in school history with 159 career 3-point field goals made. She needs just 10 more to move into sole possession of second place. Pohl also moved into the top 10 in school history for career offensive rebounds at Loyola Chicago on Dec. 18. Pohl now has 166 career offensive boards to rank sixth all-time. She needs two more to break into the top five.
Meanwhile, Nash ranks third in school history with 263 career steals. She needs one more to move into second place. The school record is 331, set by Kriss Edwards from 1977-81. Nash also entered the top 10 this season in career assists with 349, which is fifth, and her career assist average of 4.6 per game is the best in school history.

Because of its reclassification period, Nebraska Omaha cannot be included in the official NCAA statistics during its first year in Division I. However, with 4.4 steals per game, Jamie Nash would rank second in Division I in that category. Quinnipiac's Felicia Barron leads the nation with 4.7 steals per game. The Mavs as a team average 11.3 steals per game.
Clamping Down on 'D'
The Chance Lindley era is still young, but already the Mavericks are showing improvements on last year's final defensive numbers. The Mavericks are allowing opponents 61.0 points per game, which is more than 10 points better than last year's 71.3 average. UNO is also holding opponents to 28.5 percent from long distance. That's a significant upgrade from last year, when UNO's opponents shot 35.8 percent from 3-point range and the Mavs finished last in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Freshman Cox Makes Early Impact
Freshman Cathleen Cox sparked the Mavs' win over Sioux Falls with 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting and 2-of-5 from 3-point land. Cox had 14 of her points in the first half, and her seven first-half rebounds broke her career high. She finished with eight boards and her second 20-plus point game of the season, the second-most on the squad behind Jamie Nash. The Elkhorn native also came off the bench and scored a career-high 23 points in a 64-62 win over Missouri Western on Saturday, Dec. 31. Cox went 10-of-17 from the field and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Cox is fifth on the team in scoring at 7.3 points per game.
Pohl Shoots Into Top Three
Senior Heather Pohl hit 6-of-10 from 3-point range on Jan. 30 against Western Illinois to surpass Tricia Floyd (1988-92) for third place on the all-time 3-pointers made chart in school history. Pohl, who finished the game with a season-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, needs just 10 more treys to pass Karen Thies (2004-07) for second place.
A Quad of Double Doubles
An incredible four Mavericks recorded double-doubles in a 72-70 overtime win over Northwest Missouri State on Dec. 10. Jamie Nash had a game-high 21 points and 11 assists; Paige Frauendorfer had 18 points and 14 rebounds; Heather Pohl had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Rese Huddlin had 11 points and 13 rebounds, with eight coming on the offensive end.
Mavericks Reclassify to Division I
Nebraska Omaha announced in March 2011 its plan to reclassify from NCAA Division II to Division I, beginning with the 2011-12 school year. UNO, which was previously a member of the MIAA, accepted an invitation to join The Summit League and will compete as a full-fledged member with a regular-season conference schedule in 2012-13.
