Hinton, Elsasser Sweep Great West Conference Weekl

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – UNO's Katelyn Hinton and Dana Elsasser have been named Great West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after leading the Mavericks to a 6-2 record last week at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The honors were announced Wednesday by the conference office.
Hinton, a senior from Lee's Summit, Mo., posted a .292 batting average, .667 slugging percentage, .346 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage for the week which included victories over Army, Wagner, Rider, Manhattan, Bucknell and Columbia. The outfielder recorded three doubles, seven RBIs and five runs, including a team-high two homers, in 24 at bats.
The pitching honor went to Elsasser after she went 3-1 with a 0.25 ERA and an .094 opponent batting average. The sophomore right-hander from Hershey, Neb., allowed just one earned run in four complete games while giving up just nine hits in 106 batters faced. Elsasser also threw 20 strikeouts on the week, including seven in a 3-1 win over Army, and allowed just two hits in a 5-0 shutout of Manhattan.
Hinton and Elsasser are the second and third Mavs to be honored this season. Kat Barrow earned Pitcher of the Week honors on March 7.
UNO heads to Farmers Branch, Texas this weekend for the Great West Conference Cluster.
