Series History
UNO and Sioux Falls met twice on Wednesday for the first time ever. The Mavericks swept the doubleheader, 9-3 and 13-2 (6 inn.).
Scouting the Cougars
Sioux Falls is 12-14 in its transition from NAIA to Division II. The Cougars have lost four in a row and are just 1-9 on the road this season. The Cougars are led by Priscilla Quintana, who is hitting .398 with three home runs and 17 RBIs and a team-leading six doubles. Jenna Turner hits .357 with 17 RBIs and eight extra-base hits on the season. Bailey Bouman has started 13 of the Cougars' 24 games this season in the circle. Bouman is 5-8 with a 4.07 ERA. Opponents are hitting .376 against her. Bouman is also a top hitter for the Cougars, as she carries a .315 average and has scored a team-high 18 runs.
Lutmerjack
Amber Lutmer hit back-to-back grand slams in an 11-0 win over South Dakota on April 4. Her eight RBIs in the game matched the school record, which has been reached four times in school history, most recently by Jenifer McDowell in 2007. Lutmer has hit nine home runs and has 24 RBIs in her last seven games. The sophomore has upped her team-leading home run total from two to 11 in the last two weeks and now ranks eighth in school history in career home runs with 22.
Blazin' Bats
Lauren Larson and Amber Lutmer provided some offensive firepower on Wednesday in the sweep of Sioux Falls. Larson and Lutmer each went 6-for-8 on the day. Lutmer knocked out four home runs and scored five runs and 10 RBIs. Larson had one home run, scored four runs and had five RBIs. The Mavericks as a team were hot at the plate all day, recording 27 hits on the day and 22 runs. Molly Negrete was 4-for-8 at the plate with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Mavs Among Nation's Best in ERA
Although UNO can't officially count in NCAA statistics because of its transition to Division I, the Mavericks would rank 11th nationally with a 1.47 ERA. Oklahoma leads the nation with a 0.80 ERA. Dana Elsasser ranks ninth nationally with a 1.10 ERA.
Leading After Four
When leading after four innings this year, the Mavericks are 17-0, a testament to the pitching staff's performance when playing with a lead. The Mavs have only lost once when leading after three innings. That came at Nebraska on March 20. UNO led 1-0 through three innings, but the Huskers came back to win, 2-1.
