NAPERVILLE, Ill. - UNO softball pitcher Dana Elsasser was named Great West Conference Pitcher of the Year, highlighting a list of six Mavericks selected to the all-conference teams on Thursday. The teams were selected by the league coaches.
Elsasser also earned All-GWC First-Team honors, along with catcher Lauren Larson and designated player Amber Lutmer. Pitcher Kat Barrow, third baseman Molly Negrete, and outfielder Lindsay Redding were named to the All-GWC Second Team.
Elsasser pitched 151.0 innings and posted a 13-9 record with a 1.07 ERA, which led the Great West Conference and ranked fifth among all Division I pitchers. Elsasser held opponents to a .196 batting average and recorded eight shutouts while completing 20 of her 24 starts. She also had two saves. Elsasser allowed just two home runs all season in 578 at bats, and at one point during the season she allowed just four total earned runs in 15 consecutive starts.
Lutmer ranked third in the Great West Conference with a .333 batting average and tied for second with 11 home runs. She led the conference with 43 RBIs while finishing as the Mavs' top hitter with a team-high .685 slugging percentage and .456 on-base percentage. Lutmer tied the school record with eight RBIs against South Dakota with grand slams in back-to-back at bats. She shined bright at the GWC Tournament, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs against North Dakota, including the game-winning two-run single in the top of the 10th in a 4-2 win. During a seven-game stretch from March 28 to April 11, Lutmer hit nine home runs and had 24 RBIs. She had four multi-homer games, including two back-to-back multi-homer games.
Larson showed off the strength of her right arm behind the plate by gunning down five runners in 14 stolen-base attempts against her this season. In her two-year career at UNO, Larson caught 13 runners stealing in 44 attempts. She also picked off five runners in two years to break the all-time career record at UNO. Larson started all 42 games at catcher and recorded a .979 fielding percentage. She was also a threat at the plate with a .304 batting average, which ranked in the top 10 in the Great West Conference. Larson had a team-high 42 hits and had seven doubles, one home run and 16 RBIs while tying for second on the team with 10 multiple-hit games. Larson twice had a five-game hitting streak during the season.
Among the second-team honorees, Barrow appeared in 20 games in her freshman year at UNO and made 15 starts. She earned a 9-7 record with a 1.62 ERA, which ranked second in the Great West Conference. Negrete started all 42 games at third base and hit .281. She also recorded a .964 fielding percentage in 169 chances. Negrete had one of the Mavs' two triples on the season and scored 10 runs and had nine RBIs. Redding tied for seventh in the Great West Conference with a .309 batting average, which ranked second for UNO. Redding started all 42 games in right field for UNO and recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. She led the Mavs with 12 multiple-hit games on the season and stole 14 bases in 17 attempts to lead the GWC as the only player with double-digit steals. Redding also scored 22 runs and recorded seven sacrifice bunts for UNO.
Conference champion Utah Valley swept the other three major awards. Outfielder Amanda Robinson was named GWC Player of the Year; Pitcher Tiffany Mills was named Newcomer of the Year, and Todd Fairbourne earned Coach of the Year honors.
