Two Mavs Make Junior Evaluation Camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two incoming UNO hockey players have been named to USA Hockey's National Junior Evaluation Camp roster. Defenseman Brian Cooper and goaltender Anthony Stolarz will take part in the camp in August in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Cooper and Stolarz are part of a group of 46 players auditioning for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team which will compete in the 2013 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship from Dec. 26, 2012 to Jan. 5, 2013 in Russia. UNO head coach Dean Blais coached the Americans in 2010, winning the gold medal, and 2012.
Cooper comes to UNO from the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League. He had six goals and 18 assists for 24 points last season. The native of Anchorage, Alaska was named to the All-USHL Second Team for the second straight season and was named the USHL's Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
Stolarz played last season with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League. He posted a record of 23-22-4 with a 2.84 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage while earning three shutouts. The native of Jackson, N.J. is the fourth-ranked North American goaltender eligible for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft which will be held on Friday and Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The camp will take place at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid from Aug. 4-11 and will include practices, intersquad scrimmages and international games against Sweden and Finland. The final team will be selected in December, just prior to the beginning of the World Junior Championship.
USA Hockey also announced today that Phil Housley, a veteran of 21 NHL seasons and a former member of the U.S. Olympic team, will serve as head coach of this year's junior team.
