Six Mavs Earn Academic All-GWC Honors

OMAHA, Neb. - Six members of the Nebraska Omaha softball team have earned Academic All-Great West Conference honors, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Dana Elsasser, Mollie Jones, Lauren Larson, Amber Lutmer, Molly Negrete and Lindsay Redding all were honored. Larson, a senior in 2012, led the list of Mavs with a cumulative 3.63 GPA in physical education. Negrete holds a 3.62 GPA entering her senior season majoring in elementary education. Jones finished her Maverick career with a 3.56 GPA in exercise science. Lutmer enters her junior year with a 3.37 GPA in community health. Senior-to-be Redding holds a 3.23 GPA in criminal justice, while junior-to-be Elsasser has a 3.21 GPA in exercise science.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must possess a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, with the exception of pitchers, who must throw a minimum of 10.0 innings. Student-athletes must also be in residence for a full year before being eligible for Academic All-Conference. True freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.
The Maverick softball team was a one-year member of the Great West Conference before starting Summit League play in 2012-13.
