Lindley Adds Burks-Wiley to Coaching Staff

OMAHA, Neb. - UNO women's basketball Head Coach Chance Lindley has announced the hiring of Jesyka Burks-Wiley to be an assistant coach for the Mavericks.
Burks-Wiley joins Brittany Lange, who was promoted to an assistant coach position over the summer, on the Omaha coaching staff. Former assistant Jason Flores took the head coaching gig at Fort Lewis College during the offseason, while assistant coach Shanele Stires left to become an assistant at San Francisco.
"I'm very excited to join the UNO staff. There are great things going on here and I am glad to be a part of it and be in the great city of Omaha," Burks-Wiley said. "I'm happy to be working with Coach Lindley. I couldn't have asked for a better coach to start my coaching career under. He is experienced and accustomed to winning, and I'm excited to help bring a winning tradition to Omaha."
Burks-Wiley starred at Boston University from 2005-09, finishing her career as the America East Player of the Year in 2008-09. During her senior season, Burks-Wiley averaged 17.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high 32 points and collected 13 rebounds against Maine to break the 500-rebound mark for her career. She was also a member of the 1,000-point club during her decorated career at Boston, making her one of just eight players in school history to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
After college, Burks-Wiley went on to play professionally in Europe. She started her professional career with ICIM Arad in the Euro Cup in Romania, the second best league in Europe. After a successful season playing against former WNBA players, Burks-Wiley moved on to the top league in Finland and then the top Portuguese league, where she led her expansion team to the second round of the playoffs. Burks-Wiley did the same the following year when she played in Belgium, helping her new team reach the second round of the playoffs. She finished as the top rebounder on her professional team each year of her career.
A native of Kansas City, Mo., Burks-Wiley has extensive AAU ties, especially in the Kansas City area. Her grandfather, Lester Burks, was an original member of the Harlem Globe Trotters. In high school, Burks-Wiley was a standout at Lincoln College Prep Academy in Kansas City. She averaged 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game as a senior while leading Lincoln Prep to the Missouri 4A state championship game. She was an all-state, all-conference and all-metro selection.
At Boston during her senior season, she was integral to the team's unprecedented success, as BU broke a team record for wins in a season (25) and boasted an impressive 19-game winning streak that lasted nearly two and a half months, while also running the America East regular-season table with a 16-0 record. BU was one of just four teams in the nation that went unbeaten in its respective conference that season.
