Cloyd to Make Major League Debut

OMAHA, Neb. – Former Omaha baseball player Tyler Cloyd will make his Major League debut on Wednesday night, as he has been called up by the Philadelphia Phillies, the organization announced this afternoon.
Cloyd will debut against the New York Mets with first pitch at 6:05 p.m. (CT) at Citizens Bank Park. He becomes just the second Maverick to play in the Majors, joining Bruce Benedict, who played 12 seasons with the Atlanta Braves.
A native of Bellevue, Neb., and the Phillies' 18th-round pick in the 2008 Draft, Cloyd has gone 15-1 overall in the Minor Leagues this season. His recent stint with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs resulted in a 12-1 record with a 2.35 earned-run average, which led all pitchers the International League. Over 22 starts and 142 innings of work, Cloyd struck out 93 batters and allowed 38 walks and 105 hits. He was named 2012 IL Most Valuable Pitcher on Aug. 28.
Cloyd lettered two seasons at UNO (2006-07), earning third-team All-America honors and first-team all-region recognition in his final season. A two-time All-NCC honoree, he was twice named NCC Most Valuable Pitcher. In 2007, Cloyd went 8-2 with a 1.80 ERA and 96 strikeouts over 85 innings pitched.
For his career, Cloyd owned a 15-3 career record, a 2.24 ERA, 173 strikeouts and four shutouts in 25 games started.
