NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - The Omaha men's golf team holds down eighth place after the first day of play at the Fairway Club Invitational hosted by Nebraska.
The Mavericks put up a team score of 624 over the first two rounds at Arbor Links Golf Course. The host Huskers lead the event with a record of 598, two strokes ahead of Summit League school South Dakota State. Oral Roberts, a former Summit League school, is third at 603. Just 10 strokes separate the top six teams.
Karl Krieser shot UNO's two lowest rounds of the day, following a first-round score of 75 with a 76 in the afternoon session for a score of 151. That put him in a tie for 19th overall. Mitch Johnson shot a 155 to finish second in scoring for the Mavs and in a tie for 30th overall. Alex Overfelt was third for UNO at 158, putting him in a tie for 45th overall. Mike Shukis was fourth with a score of 160, and Mitch Ryan completed the scoring with a 36-hole score of 178.
Freshman Reid Weibe, playing as an individual, shot 170.
The final round begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
