LINCOLN, Neb. - Freshman Britany Seda shot a team-best score in the third round of the Chip-N Club Invitational at Nebraska, and the Mavericks finished 11th in their first event of the season.
UNO finished with a 54-hole score of 1006 at the Country Club of Lincoln, finishing ahead of Creighton and Summit League foe South Dakota.
Southern Methodist cruised to the team win on the strength of a third round score of 289. The Mustangs finished with a score of 903 to win the 13-team event. Missouri, the leader after the first two rounds, finished second at 918 and North Dakota State, another Summit League school, was third at 932.
Seda fired a career-best score of 81 on Tuesday to close with a three-round total of 250, tying her with senior teammate Elizabeth Havekost who had an 83 in the final round. They finished in a tie for 46th overall.
Brooke Thilges closed with an 88 and posted a 54-hole score of 255 to finish third for the Mavs and 54th overall. Sophie Peters shot 83 on Tuesday for a three-round score of 257 to place fourth for UNO and in a tie for 60th. Melyssa Doerr completed the scoring with a 90 in round three for a final tally of 260.
The Mavericks return to action on Sept. 16 and 17 at the Concordia Invitational.
