EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Freshman Katie Kesti shot an eight-over-par 80 to lead the Omaha women's golf team in round one of the SIUE Intercollegiate at Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Monday.
Kesti is fifth overall in the field of 60 golfers after going out in 39 and then shooting 41 on the back side. This is the first tournament of her college career.
Captain Brooke Thilges carded a score of 85 to rank second for the Mavericks and put her in a tie for 14th overall. Melyssa Doerr was one shot back to put her in a tie for 20th. Elizabeth Havekost fired a round of 87 to rank fourth for UNO and in a tie for 26th overall. Sophie Peters shot a 95 to complete the Mavs' scoring on day one at the Sunset Hills Country Club.
Southern Illinois leads after an opening round score of 326, followed by Lipscomb at 337. The Mavs are in third at 338.
The final round begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
