NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - The Omaha men's golf team finished in ninth place at the Fairway Club Invitational hosted by Nebraska, its first event of the season.
The Mavericks posted a score of 940 after shooting a third-round score of 316 on Tuesday at Arbor Links Golf Course, finishing just behind Creighton and just ahead of Summit League foe Western Illinois.
Host Nebraska won with a score of 899, edging Illinois State by one. Oral Roberts was third at 902.
Karl Krieser shot a 76 on Tuesday to lead the Mavericks with a three-round total of 227, good for a tie for 15th overall. Mitch Johnson was second for UNO and tied for 39th overall with a score of 234 that included a 79 in round three.
Alex Overfelt was third for UNO with a score of 242, one ahead of teammate Mike Shukis. Overfelt had an 84 in round three while Shukis posted an 83. Mitch Ryan concluded the scoring for UNO with a score of 78 on Tuesday for a 54-hole score of 256.
Freshman Reid Weibe, playing as an individual, shot 77 on Tuesday for a three-round score of 247.
The Mavericks return to action at the Concordia Invitational on Sept. 16 and 17.
