Nash Reaches 1,000 Points and Breaks Steals Record

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Omaha women's basketball team never trailed in a 62-47 non-conference win at Chicago State on Thursday night.
The Mavericks (12-5) snapped a two-game losing skid with the win, while Chicago State fell to 1-17 overall. Jamie Nash had 10 points and became the 24th Maverick to reach 1,000 career points with a 3-pointer with 6:37 left in the game. She also grabbed four steals to become UNO's career steals leader with 332 for her career.
Paige Frauendorfer led UNO with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Carolyn Blair-Mobley had 11 points, and Ericka House recorded 10. Eight different Mavericks scored in the win. Freshman Allison Jackson played a career-high 15 minutes and scored a career-best six points and grabbed five rebounds.
Chicago State hung around early, trailing UNO 20-15 with 7:43 left in the first half. But the Mavericks finished the half on a 21-8 run to stake a 41-23 lead at the break.
The Mavs shot 69.6 percent (16-of-23) in the first half, as Omaha moved the ball well and found open jumpers and looks underneath the basket.
The Mavs built the lead to 45-23 out of the gate in the second half on a Taijhe Kelly jumper and Frauendorfer bucket with 18:19 left. But the Cougars recorded a 10-0 run to get within 45-33 by the 13:26 mark. The Mavericks went a total of 11:42 without scoring, but they were solid defensively and kept Chicago State off the scoreboard for 8:18 to maintain the double-digit lead.
Nash picked a great time to break the 1,000-point barrier, ending the Mavericks' drought at 6:37 with a 3-pointer to give her 1,001 career points and put the Mavs up 48-33. House hit a 3-pointer two possessions later to make it 51-33 with 5:39 to play.
The Mavs finished the game shooting 47.1 percent after hitting just 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) in the second half. UNO held the Cougars to 39.6 percent on 19-of-48 from the field. The Mavs committed a season-high 23 turnovers but still outscored Chicago State 29-18 off turnovers because they forced CSU into 21 turnovers, a season best for the Mavs.
The Mavs visit Indiana Dabney on Saturday at 1 p.m. before returning to Summit League play for the rest of the season.
