House Named to Preseason Summit League Second Team

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha women's basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the Summit League Preseason Poll released on Tuesday. Additionally, senior guard Ericka House was selected to the Preseason All-Summit League Second Team.
The league's head coaches, sports information directors and media voted on the preseason honors.
The Mavericks collected 77 points to edge out eighth-place North Dakota State by three points.
The Mavs return three players - House, Taijhe Kelly and Cathleen Cox - and have nine newcomers on the roster this season. UNO was 17-11 overall last year with a 7-9 conference record, good for a tie for fifth in the standings.
South Dakota State garnered 27-of-30 first-place votes and was tabbed the preseason favorite with 319 points. The Jackrabbits have won five straight conference tournaments.
IUPUI got the other three first-place votes and finished second with 276 points. South Dakota came in third with 224 points, and Fort Wayne was fourth with 179 points. League newcomer Denver was picked fifth with 169 points, and Western Illinois came in sixth with 146 points.
Not surprisingly, Fort Wayne guard Amanda Hyde was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year after earning Player of the Year last season. Hyde, as well as DeAirra Goss (IUPUI), Ashley Luke (Western Illinois), Nicole Seekamp (South Dakota), Morgan Van Riper-Rose (Denver) and Megan Waytashek (South Dakota State) comprise the first team.
House earned second-team honors after averaging 9.0 points per game coming off the bench last season. House was the top-scoring bench player in the league, and she hit 57-of-170 3-pointers (33.5 percent). The rest of the second team includes: Dee-Dee Bellamy (IUPUI), Polly Harrington (South Dakota), Steph Paluch (South Dakota State) and Haley Seibert (Fort Wayne).
The Mavs open the season on Nov. 2 with an exhibition against Lincoln University (Mo.) at the Sapp Fieldhouse at 2 p.m.
