Mavs Announce Men's Basketball Broadcast Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha athletic department and Nelligan Sports Marketing announced Friday that all 2013-14 UNO men's basketball games will be broadcast live on the NRG family of AM radio stations. In addition, the Mavericks' men's basketball broadcast team will be Gary Sharp and former UNO letterwinner Grant Nieland.
Sixteen of the Mavericks' games will be on 1620 The Zone (KOZN AM). Another nine will air on 1180 The Zone 2 (KZOT AM), and five will be on The Mighty 1290 (KOIL AM) throughout the season.
With more than 20 years of experience working in sports, Sharp is currently the co-host of 1620's morning show, “Sharp and Benning in the Morning” and will serve as play-by-play announcer on Maverick broadcasts. Nieland, who lettered for the Mavericks from 2004 to 2008 and was an NCC Academic Honor Roll selection, will provide color commentary for home broadcasts.
“We're very excited to announce this year's broadcast plans for men's basketball,” general manager John Skolaski said. “This is a strong partnership with NRG, and it will give our fans unprecedented access to UNO basketball broadcasts.
“Gary Sharp brings a wealth of professional experience and knowledge to the broadcast team, and Grant Nieland will provide unique insight and familiarity with the program as a former UNO player himself.”
Omaha opens the 2013-14 season on Friday, Nov. 8, traveling to Northern Illinois. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start in DeKalb, Ill.
