Shires Signs O'Shaughnessy for 2014

OMAHA, Neb. – Sydney O'Shaughnessy has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Omaha volleyball program in 2014, head coach Rose Shires announced Wednesday.
O'Shaughnessy is a 5-9 setter who played for coach Rochelle Rohlfs at Marian High School, as well as Nebraska Juniors club coaches Jake Moore and former UNO volleyball player Annie Rice Healey.
O'Shaughnessy earned second-team all-state honors in 2012 after helping the Crusaders to a state runner-up finish. As a junior, she averaged 4.9 assists and 1.2 kills per set. In her senior season, O'Shaughnessy has averaged 9.7 assists and 1.1 kills per set and spurred Marian to qualify for the state tournament for the fourth time in her career.
“Sydney is a top-level setter who will immediately raise our level of play at UNO,” Shires said. “She is an exceptional quarterback on the court who has an in-depth understanding of the game and a very high volleyball IQ. Sydney is a fierce competitor with outstanding athletic ability, and we are excited about what she will add to our program next season.”
