Mavericks Sign Five for 2014-15

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha softball head coach Jeanne Scarpello has signed five recruits to National Letters of Intent to join the Mavericks in the 2014-15 school year.
The class is made up of five incoming freshmen: Jaycee Bernholtz (Liberty, Mo.), Jaylee Hinrichs (Lincoln, Neb.), Kelly Pattison (Lockport, Ill.), Kylie Schwarting (Omaha, Neb.) and Megan May (Lincoln, Neb.).
"We are very, very pleased with our 2014 class," Scarpello said. "As we get closer to being eligible for Summit League and NCAA Tournament play, it's important for us to find the right student-athletes to be a part of our program, and we feel that we've found that with these five. They have a great combination of power, speed and defensive skill, and they all come from winning teams. We love their competitiveness and think they will fit in right away with our current team members next fall."
The Mavericks posted a 36-7 overall record and 14-3 Summit League mark in 2013.
2014 Omaha Softball Signing Class
Jaycee Bernholtz, IF, 5-7, R/R, Liberty, Mo. (Liberty)
Four-year varsity member for the Blue Jays…helped Liberty to a 22-10 record as a senior with three home runs, 17 RBIs, a .485 slugging percentage and a .910 fielding percentage at third base...hit .300 as a freshman with a perfect fielding percentage and .434 slugging percentage to help the Blue Jays win the district title...also won district and sectional championships as a sophomore with a 26-3 final record, posting a .321 slugging percentage and .902 fielding percentage with one homer and 14 RBIs...became a team captain as a junior and slugged .432 with a .941 fielding percentage and one homer...played for Originals Gold under Coach Chad Bernholtz and won the Premier League National Qualifier in 2013 and the USSSA Missouri state championship in 2012...born Jacelyn Jo Bernholtz on June 3, 1996 in Carroll, Iowa….daughter of Chad and Cathy Bernholtz…has one brother, Corbin, and one sister, Tayler.
Jaylee Hinrichs, P, 5-10, R/R, Lincoln, Neb. (Lincoln Southeast)
Was a first-team all-state and super-state pitcher at Lincoln Southeast, helping the Knights to a 30-7 record as a senior…posted a 0.94 ERA with a 27-5 overall record and 340 strikeouts in 2013...as a junior, finished with a 2.69 ERA, 273 strikeouts and a 22-9 record while garnering first-team all-state and super-state accolades...went 25-14 as a sophomore with a 1.90 ERA and 352 strikeouts...played for Nebraska Fury under Coach Mike Heard...qualified for nationals three straight years, finishing as high as ninth in 2012...honor roll member...born June 28, 1996….daughter of Matt and Christie Hinrichs…has one sister, Jordan.
Kelly Pattison, OF/IF, 5-6, R/R, Lockport, Ill. (Lockport Township)
Entering her senior season in spring 2014…as a junior, hit .391 with a .450 on-base percentage and .504 slugging percentage for the Porters...stole 12 bases, hit two home runs and was a first-team all-conference selection...led Lockport to conference and regional championships as a junior and sophomore...has 45 career stolen bases entering her final season...played for New Lenox Lightning under Coach Jim Abbott and compiled a 60-8-4 record...finished 17th at nationals and tallied a .358 on-base percentage...born Feb. 26, 1996 in Palos, Ill....daughter of Mike and Laurie Pattison…has three brothers, Justin, Bryan, Matthew and Michael.
Kylie Schwarting, IF/OF, 5-4, L/R, Omaha, Neb. (Papillion-La Vista)
Was the team captain and a first-team super state and all-state left fielder for the Monarchs as a senior, leading them to a runner-up finish in the state tournament with a final record of 34-3...hit .480 with 43 runs scored, 36 RBIs and 34 stolen bases...as a junior, was a team captain and starting third baseman...hit .378 with 30 runs, 24 RBIs and 34 stolen bases...led Monarchs to third-place finishes at state in 2011 and 2012 and earned all-state honorable mention both years...was a member of the Monarchs' state championship team as a freshman in 2010, leading the team in stolen bases...played for Omaha Quakes Gold under Coach Mike Butera...honor roll member and Academic Excellence Award winner…born Feb. 8, 1996...daughter of Kevin and Pam Schwarting...has one brother, Travis.
Megan May, C/IF, 5-6, R/R, Lincoln, Neb. (Lincoln Southeast)
Named the Lincoln Journal Star Super State catcher and team captain following her senior season in which she hit .533 with 23 doubles, eight home runs and 57 RBIs...set state records for doubles in a season (23) and in a career (62)...also set a new state career RBI record with 188...won Lincoln Southeast's Black & Gold award...as a junior, was a first-team super-state pick and hit .533 with eight homers and 51 RBIs...helped the Knights to a runner-up finish at the state tournament as a sophomore third baseman and clean-up hitter, batting .403 with eight home runs and 45 RBIs...was a second-team all-state pick...made varsity as a freshman and was an all-city and all-conference selection and all-state honorable mention with a .337 batting average, three home runs and 35 RBIs...played for Nebraska Gold under Coach Mike Heard and Coach Dick Jablonski...honor roll and academic all-conference member...born July 25, 1996...daughter of Kim and Becky May...has one brother, Nicholas.
