Mavs Outlast Chicago State, 76-62

OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO women's basketball team used a decisive 15-4 run midway through the second half to grab control of a back-and-forth game and snatch a 76-62 win over Chicago State on Monday night at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Ericka House led UNO (2-2) with 19 points, while Mikaela Shaw had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sami Pawlak added 10 points, and Lanese Bough had eight points, nine rebounds and four assists.
Freshman Madi Robson had nine assists and three steals to go with four points. She ran the Maverick offense in the second half after junior point guard Brianna Bogard left the game with 17:49 to play with a knee injury. She was unable to return to the game.
Chicago State (1-3) dressed just seven players for the game. Tierra Williams led all scorers with 21 points, while Paris Williams added 20.
The Mavs battled back from a slow start in the first half to take a seven-point halftime lead, 35-28. UNO started just 1-of-7 from the floor and fell behind 9-4 by the 15:02 mark of the first half but responded with a five straight points, a two by Taijhe Kelly and a three by Felicia Anderson to tie the game.
But Chicago State came out of the halftime break with a 9-0 run to take a 37-35 lead. The Cougars would go up 42-39 with 14:36 left, but House hit two 3-pointers off of assists from Robson to give UNO a 45-44 lead. After a Paris Williams free throw tied the game, UNO went on a 15-4 run to grab a 60-49 lead with 7:26 to play. The Mavs led by as many as 16 late in the game.
UNO shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the floor and 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from 3-point range. CSU was 34.4 percent (21-of-61) overall and 25.0 percent (5-of-20) from long distance. The Cougars stayed in the game courtesy of 21 free throw attempts, of which they made 15. The Mavs made all six of their attempts from the foul line.
The Mavs are back at home on Saturday to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1 p.m.
