Mavericks Resume NCHC Play with No. 8 Miami

This Week
The Omaha Mavericks finish their six-game home stand this week when they welcome No. 8 Miami for an NCHC series on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23. Friday's game begins at 7:37 p.m., and Saturday's contest faces off at 8:07 p.m.
The Teams
The Mavericks are 6-6-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the NCHC, good for a tie with St. Cloud State and North Dakota for second place. The Mavericks split a non-conference series with Michigan last week, winning 3-2 and losing 4-3. The Mavs are 3-5-0 at home this year, 7-17-3 all-time against Miami and 4-7-1 against the RedHawks in Omaha. They haven't played Miami since February of 2010.
Miami comes to Omaha for the first time since January of 2009. The RedHawks are 7-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the NCHC, putting them in a tie with Minnesota Duluth and Western Michigan for fifth. They are 2-2-1 on the road this season. Miami split with visiting Wisconsin last weekend, winning 2-0 and losing 3-2.
Last Time Out
The Mavericks split their second straight series against a top 10 team last weekend, beating then No. 2 Michigan, 3-2, before losing the following night, 4-3. On Friday, the Mavericks came from behind to best the Wolverines. Aaron Pearce and Josh Archibald scored goals 2:45 apart early in the third period to erase a one-goal defecit and give the Mavs the win. Dominic Zombo also tallied for the Mavs, opening the scoring with a powerplay goal at 10:13 of the second period. Michigan tied the game and took the lead on powerplay markers from Luke Moffatt and JT Compher and led 2-1 after two. Ryan Massa stopped 26 shots in the win.
On Saturday, the Wolverines built leads of 2-0 and 3-1 and held off the Mavericks, 4-3, to earn the split. James Polk and then Brian O'Rourke had goals for the Mavs after UM had taken each two-goal lead, and Brock Montpetit scored a powerplay goal midway through the third to tie it. Michigan would respond just 50 seconds later with the game winner from Derek DeBlois. Reed Peters made 27 saves in the loss.
The Coaches
Dean Blais is in his fifth year as the head coach of the Mavericks, having led UNO to two 20-win campaigns in that time. The 1973 graduate of Minnesota has posted a career record of 342-189-47 (.632) in his career as a head coach and has guided the Mavericks to a mark of 80-74-16 (.518).
Blais is a two-time Spencer Penrose Memorial Award winner as the Division I coach of the year and a four-time winner of the WCHA's Coach of the Year Award. He spent 10 years as head coach at North Dakota where he led UND to national championships in 1997 and 2000. He is assisted by coaches Troy Jutting and Alex Todd who both have extensive head coaching experience, Jutting at Minnesota State and Todd at Castleton (Vt.) State .
Enrico Blasi is in his 15th season guiding the RedHawks. The 1994 graduate of Miami is 318-200-54 all-time at his alma mater. He is assisted by Brent Brekke and Nick Petraglia.

Friday's game will be televised live statewide on NET 1, Nebraska's Public Television Service. Dave Ahlers will call the game, and former Maverick David Brisson will provide analysis.
