Mavs Meet Doane on New Year's Eve at 2 p.m.

Riding a four-game win streak, the Omaha women's basketball team begins a stretch of five straight home games with a New Year's Eve matchup with Doane at 2 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse. Tuesday afternoon's game will air live on 1180 Zone 2 with Jon Green calling the play-by-play. Links to a live webcast, live audio stream and live stats will be available at OMavs.com.
The Teams
The Mavericks (7-5) are riding a four-game win streak after a pair of double-digit wins over UT-Pan American and Austin Peay at the Wichita State Winter Classic on Dec. 21-22. The wins were the first for the Mavericks away from home this season. Over the past four games, the Mavs have averaged 82.3 points per game and have won by an average margin of 26.0 points per game. Omaha will look to build on its perfect 5-0 start at home with five home games over the course of the next three weeks. The Mavs lead all Summit League teams in lowest opponent shooting percentage (34.7) and 3-point defense (23.0 percent). The Mavs' 61.8 points per game allowed ranks second among league teams. Offensively, the Mavs are third in scoring (75.2 ppg) and second in field goal percentage (44.6). UNO ranks second in rebounding (41.6 per game) and in turnovers with just 14.4 giveaways per game, 1.4 per game fewer than last season.
Doane enters Tuesday's game with a 4-9 overall record and 1-7 mark in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Tigers are led by Hannah Dostal's 17.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Shelbi Bittinger adds 13.0 ppg and 2.6 steals per game. Cali Bellar has a team-high 4.1 assists per game to go with 7.7 ppg. Doane last played on Dec. 18, suffering an 85-75 loss to Northwestern (Iowa) College.

The Mavs committed a school-record low four turnovers with just one in the first half. House was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 23.5 points in the Mavs' two wins. Madi Robson had 13 points, seven assists and four rebounds. Taijhe Kelly posted her second straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also blocked six shots. The Mavs never trailed after an inspirational start led to a 7-0 outburst in the opening 2:16. The Mavs led 42-26 at the break. In the second half, Omaha went up by as many as 22, 69-47 with 2:53 remaining.

Junior center Taijhe Kelly is climbing her way up the career blocked shots chart at UNO. Kelly has 156 career blocks to rank second in school history. The school-record holder is Mary Henke-Anderson with 291 from 1979-83. Kelly swatted 74 shots in 2012-13, the third-highest single-season total in Maverick history. Only Henke-Anderson has had more blocked shots in a season (86 in 1980-81 and 75 in 1979-80). Kelly was first in The Summit League last season with her 2.6 blocks per game. Her 51 blocked shots in conference play were 26 more than the next closest competitor. Kelly is tied for the school record with seven blocked shots in one game, which she did on Feb. 7, 2013 against Western Illinois.
