Guentzel Named NCHC Rookie of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Omaha hockey freshman forward Jake Guentzel was been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Rookie of the Month for November. He is the first Maverick to win one of the NCHC's monthly awards.
Guentzel tied for second in team scoring during November with a goal and six assists for seven points while playing in all eight games. He helped Omaha post a 6-2-0 record for the month. He began November with a goal and three assists in a sweep at Denver on Nov. 1-2. He had the Mavericks' first goal and the primary assist on the overtime game winner as the Mavericks won, 3-2 in the opener. The following night, he had two more assists including an assist on the second straight overtime game winner in another 3-2 victory. For his efforts, he was named the NCHC's rookie of the week.
The next weekend, Guentzel tallied an assist as Omaha split with then No. 10 North Dakota, 4-2, 2-3. He had another helper in the Mavericks' split with then No. 2 Michigan, 3-2, 3-4 the following weekend.
Guentzel finished the month with another assist as the Mavericks swept then No. 8 Miami, 6-3, 3-1. He finished the month with just one minor penalty while also blocking three shots.
The Mavericks travel to Colorado College this weekend for games on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7. Friday's game begins at 8:37 p.m. CT, and Saturday's game starts at 8:07 p.m. CT. They are the Mavericks' last two games of 2013.
