Elsasser Captures First Summit League Pitcher of t

OMAHA, Neb. - Junior pitcher Dana Elsasser picked up the first Summit League Pitcher of the Week award this season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Elsasser led the Mavs (5-0) to a perfect weekend at the UNCW Beach Blast with a 3-0 record and 0.78 ERA to earn her first Summit League award in the Mavs' first year in the conference.
Elsasser opened the season with a one-hit shutout over Iona, tallying four strikeouts. In her next start of the weekend, she combined for another shutout, pitching four innings and giving up just one hit to Iona. In her final appearance of the weekend, Elsasser fanned five batters and picked up her third win of the weekend with a complete-game victory over Detroit. On the weekend, Elsasser struck out 10, while allowing five hits, two earned runs and one walk in 18 innings of work for a 0.78 ERA. She held her opponents to a .088 batting average.
The award is the fifth career weekly award for the Hershey, Neb., native. Elsasser was named the Great West Conference Pitcher of the Week four times last season, as well as GWC Pitcher of the Year.
IUPUI's junior outfielder Jessica Lam won the Player of the Week award after leading the Jaguar offense with three multi-hit games, three multi-RBI games and a home run in each of IUPUI's first four games during opening weekend. UNO's Amber Lutmer was also nominated for the award.
