Mavs Take 13-1 Record to Fort Collins for Colorado

The UNO softball team takes its 13-1 record and five-game win streak to Fort Collins, Colo., this weekend for the Colorado State Classic at Ram Field. The Mavs play Bradley on Friday at 10 a.m. (Central), followed by Brown at 12:15 p.m. Unlike its previous tournaments, UNO will play just once on Saturday, against host Colorado State at 12:15 p.m. The Mavs will then play twice on Sunday, against Brown at 10 a.m. and No. 18 Washington at 2:30 p.m.
Series History
UNO is 2-0 against Bradley with the last meeting a 3-2 win in 1991 at the Northern Iowa Tournament. UNO is 1-0 against Brown after a 12-0 win in 1994 at the Rebel Spring Games. CSU won the only matchup with UNO in 1981, 7-6, at UNO.
The Teams
The Mavs are off to a 13-1 start, marking the best start since the 2003 season when the Mavs began 19-1. The Mavs opened the 2013 campaign with five straight wins for the fifth-time in school history and are currently riding a five-game win streak.
Bradley (8-6) has won five straight and is coming off a 4-0 record at the Tennessee State Tiger Invitational in Nashville. The Braves own a 2-1 win over No. 17 Arizona on Feb. 8 and have losses to No. 16 Stanford (8-2) and No. 3 Arizona State (3-0).
Brown (0-0) is playing its first games of the season this weekend. Its very first game will be against UNO on Friday at 12:15 p.m. (CT). The Bears were 10-27 last year with a 7-13 mark in the Ivy League.
Colorado State (6-9) has lost six straight and is coming off an 0-5 weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. The Rams started the season 6-3 but have run into tough competition in New Mexico State, Georgia, Oregon State, Utah, Virginia and Syracuse.
Washington (10-5) is ranked 18th in the NFCA Top 25 Poll after a perfect 4-0 record at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic last weekend. The Huskies beat Virginia (7-1), then-No. 23 Florida State (2-0), Illinois (15-0, 5 inn.) and then-No. 13 Georgia (14-2). Washington's losses have come to UAB, No. 20 Hawaii, No. 19 Kentucky, No. 2 Oklahoma and Cal Poly.
Last Time Out
The Mavs went 4-0 at the Jackson State Tournament last weekend to capture the tournament title, its second of the spring in three tournaments. After Friday's games were rained out, UNO opened with a 6-5 win over Evansville and followed with a 5-0 win over host Jackson State on Saturday. On Sunday, the Mavs dropped Evansville in six innings, 9-1, and added a 3-2 win over the Purple Aces to finish the tournament unbeaten. Allie Mathewson hit .467 at the plate to lead the Mavs on the weekend. She had two doubles and scored a team-best six runs. Amber Lutmer hit .333 with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored. Dana Elsasser contributed in all four of the Mavericks' wins by posting a 2-0 record in her two starts and earning saves in the other two games with a 0.47 ERA.

She is holding opponents to a .167 batting average. She leads The Summit League in ERA, complete games and saves.
• Sophomore Kat Barrow complements Elsasser with a 3-0 record and 2.07 ERA. Barrow has two complete games in three starts this season.
• The Mavs' have gotten big contributions from two of their freshmen. Catcher Campbell Ditto hits .326 with two doubles, three triples, three homers, six RBIs and a team-high 15 runs scored. Ditto is an athletic catcher, going 4-for-4 on the basepaths so far this season. Ditto's eight-game hitting streak to begin the season is the longest by a Mav this season. Second baseman Tara Trede is hitting .333 with a triple, five RBIs and eight runs scored. Trede tied the school record with three stolen bases in one game on Feb. 23.
Mavs in the Summit
In their first year in The Summit League, the Mavs have made their mark atop many statistical categories. UNO leads the league with 83 runs scored, four triples, 18 home runs, 76 RBIs, a .408 on-base percentage and .516 slugging percentage. The Mavs' pitching staff has a conference-best 1.18 ERA and has allowed a league-low 21 runs total and two home runs. UNO's 4.36 hits allowed per game are also the best in the conference.
Scouting Bradley
Junior Alyson Clemente is the top hitter in the Missouri Valley Conference with a .524 batting average, and she also leads the Valley with a .600 on-base percentage. In the past six games, Clemente is hitting .737 with 11 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, one homer and 13 RBIs. Senior Mackenzie Camp is the ace with a 3-2 record and 4.05 ERA. Last weekend at the Lobo Classic she was 3-0 with a 1.43 ERA.
Scouting Brown
Brown is playing for just the first time this season. The Bears open their season against UNO on Friday at 12:15 p.m. (CT). Brown is led by 2012 Ivy League Co-Player of the Year Stephanie Thompson, who last year hit .477 with nine home runs and 27 RBIs. Thompson led the nation with a .504 batting average as a sophomore in 2011 and had 13 home runs that year.
Scouting Colorado State
Ashlie Ortega hits .365 with two home runs and 14 RBIs. She has a team-high 11 runs scored and two triples as well. Alysa Greckel (.341) and Cassy Mosser (.340) also pace the Rams at the plate. Kacie McCarthy is 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA. She has five complete games in seven starts on the season.
Scouting Washington
Hooch Fagaly leads Washington with a .439 batting average to go with two home runs and 10 RBIs. Kaitlin Inglesby, UW's top hitter last season, is batting .372 with a team-high three home runs and 18 RBIs. Bryana Walker has a 7-2 record and a 1.21 ERA. She has three shutouts and has completed seven of her nine starts. Walker has struck out 73 batters with just five walks.
Elsasser Earns Second Summit League Honor
Dana Elsasser was named Summit League Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season on Feb. 25. Elsasser contributed in all four of the Mavericks' wins at the Jackson State Tournament by posting a 2-0 record in her two starts and earning saves in the other two games. The right-handed hurler allowed no earned runs with two complete games and one shutout. She allowed 10 hits and just one unearned run total in 15.0 innings pitched with two walks and 12 strikeouts, while limiting opponents to a .204 batting average. The award is the sixth career weekly conference pitching award for the Hershey, Neb., native.
Mavs Dig the Long Ball
The Mavericks have hit 18 home runs through 14 games after hitting just 18 home runs all of last season. UNO crushed 12 homers in the first five games at the UNCW Beach Blast to set the tone. Amber Lutmer (seven), Allie Mathewson (five) and Campbell Ditto (three) lead the charge. Molly Negrete has one, and Tonya Peterson and Ashton Hughes each hit the first home run of their careers this season.

Junior slugger Amber Lutmer is making her mark on the all-time home run chart in UNO history. Lutmer has 29 home runs to rank third in school history. She is just one away from moving into a tie for second. The school record holder is Leslie Svoboda with 44 home runs from 2005-08.
Redding on the Basepaths
Senior outfielder Lindsay Redding has 38 career stolen bases to rank 13th in school history. Redding won't surpass the school record of 113 set by Toni Novak from 1994-97, but she is just three steals away from reaching the top 10 and 19 away from the top five. Redding is 7-for-8 this season.
Lutmer Drives Them Home
Junior Amber Lutmer has been a run-producing machine so far in her UNO career. Lutmer has 108 career RBIs to rank 16th in school history. The school RBI record is 192, set by Leslie Svoboda from 2005-08. Lutmer had 43 RBIs last season and 42 in her freshman season, both of which led the Mavericks. With similar run production this season, Lutmer would find herself in the top 10 in school history after just three seasons.
Elsasser Back in Circle after Stellar Sophomore Season
Although just a junior, pitcher Dana Elsasser has already established herself as one of the all-time great pitchers in UNO history. Elsasser posted a 1.07 ERA as a sophomore in 2012, which ranked second among all Division I pitchers. Her 23 earned runs allowed were the fewest among any Division I starting pitcher who pitched at least 150.0 innings last season. Her career ERA of 0.99 ranks third in school history, and her career opponent batting average of .189 ranks second.
