WICHITA, Kan. – The Omaha track & field team set a host of personal best performances on the second day of competition at the Varsity Apartments Invitational at Wichita State.
Amanda Vorthmann, one day after her school record performance in the 5,000 meters, set a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:02.67, good for sixth place. Ashley Kildow was 13th with a time of 5:16.59, just ahead of Nicole Behm who had a personal best time of 5:16.82.
Sami Spenner posted two personal bests. She was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.73. Her time of 8.66 in the prelims was her second PR in the event this season. Kathie-Lee Laidley tied her personal best with a time of 8.96, good for ninth place.
Spenner also ran a PR of 7.68 in the prelims of the 60 meter dash. She finished sixth in the finals with a time of 7.70. UNO's Maja Mihalinec, the school's record holder in the event, finished second in a time of 7.54.
In the 800 meters, Katarina Zarudnaya took second in a personal best time of 2:16.90. Lauren Psota also cracked the top eight, finishing fourth in a time of 2:17.57, another new PR.
Kristin Rogers set a new personal best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:32.20, putting her in seventh place.
The Mavericks' team of Terri Armstrong, Spenner, Zarudnaya and Posta also finished fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:55.50.
In head-to-head competition, the Mavs finished fourth with 54 points, putting them ahead of fellow Division I schools Oklahoma and Missouri State.
UNO returns to the track Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 7-9 at the Iowa State Classic.
