FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The UNO softball team picked up two more wins on Friday on the opening day of the Colorado State Softball Classic to improve to 15-1 this season with seven straight wins.
The Mavs began the day with a 10-6 win in a slugfest with Bradley. UNO followed immediately after by topping Brown, 9-3.
Omaha continues play with one game on Saturday against host Colorado State at 12:15 p.m. (Central).

Allie Mathewson went 3-for-4 with a career-best five RBIs and finished a double shy of the cycle to lead the Mavs. Amber Lutmer homered, and the Mavs broke open a tight game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning for the final margin.
The Mavs fell down 1-0 to the Braves (8-7) after one inning but produced three runs in the top of the third and never relinquished the lead. Campbell Ditto had an RBI single in the inning, and Lutmer hit a two-run bomb, her eighth of the season, to make it 3-1. Lutmer's homer was the 30th of her career and moved her into a tie for second place all-time at UNO.
The Braves cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third, but UNO reeled off four more runs in the top of the fourth for a 7-2 lead, all with two outs. Mathewson tripled home Mara Eeman and Tara Trede, then scored on an RBI single by Lindsay Redding. Ditto tripled for the third time this season to score Redding for four runs on four hits in the inning.
The Braves began to figure out Maverick ace Dana Elsasser though, producing four runs over the next three innings to draw within 7-6. Elsasser left the game with two outs gone in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashton Hughes came on and got a foul out to end the inning with one runner left on base.
In the top of the seventh, Mathewson hit a three-run homer, her sixth of the season, to give the Mavs breathing room. Hughes retired the Braves in order to finish the game.
Elsasser (9-1) got the win despite allowing a career-high six earned runs on 13 hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Hughes pitched 1.1 perfect innings in relief.
The Mavs got most of their production from the first four batters. Mathewson, Redding, Ditto and Lutmer combined to go 8-for-14 with five runs scored and 10 RBIs. Trede scored twice and freshman Sydney Hames went 2-for-4 with a double.

UNO jumped on Brown, playing its first game of the season, with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Amber Lutmer and Molly Negrete singled, followed by a Sydney Hames walk to load the bases. A passed ball allowed each runner to move up a base, scoring Lutmer. Mara Eeman then walked to load the bases again, and Tara Trede grounded a fielder's choice to the shortstop that scored Negrete. Hames made it 3-0 when she scored on an error by the second baseman on Mathewson's ground ball.
The Mavs added two in the third on Tonya Peterson's two-run homer, the second of her career and second in as many weekends.
Brown (0-1) got back two runs off UNO starter Ashton Hughes in the top of the fourth inning and one more in the fifth to cut the Mavs' lead to 5-3.
