MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Omaha baseball team kicked off its trip to Minnesota on Tuesday, falling 6-1 at the Metrodome. The Mavericks are now 1-7 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Gophers improve to 11-5 (0-0 Big Ten).

Ty McDevitt (1-0) earned the win, surrendering one hit over 4.0 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and three walks. Sophomore Cole Volkers (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits over 2.0 innings of work with one strikeout.

Senior Ryan Keele finished 2-for-2 with a run scored and a walk, while redshirt freshman Clayton Taylor finished 2-for-3 on the night. Senior Cory Buckley came through with an RBI single in his pinch hitting appearance in the ninth to score Keele for Omaha's only run.

Minnesota's Kurt Schlangen hit 2-for-5 with two runs scored and another driven in, while Andy Henekemeyer finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Ryan Abrahamson also went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Minnesota came out hot, plated two runs on four hits in the bottom of the first. Henekemeyer led off with a triple to right center, then scored on Schlangen's RBI single to left. Schlangan came in on Abrahamson's single to left, making it 2-0 in favor of the Gophers.

UM added another pair of runs in the second inning, as the Gophers posted a single from Henkemeyer, a single from Schlangen and a two-run double from Olinger that pushed it to 4-0. Minnesota added another run in the fifth, as Olinger was hit by a pitch to start it off and later came in on Abrahamson's RBI single to left that extended the Gophers' lead to 5-0.

The Gophers tacked on one more run in the eighth, as David Bettenburg led off with a double down the right field line, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Alex LaShomb's sacrifice fly to center.

Omaha got on the board in the top of the ninth, as Keele started off with a single and was later plated on Buckley's single through the right side for the final tally of 6-1.
