Air Force Shuts Out Mavs, 2-0

USAF Academy, Colo. – The Omaha baseball team opened a midweek series at Air Force on Tuesday, falling 2-0 at Falcon Field. The Mavericks are now 4-9 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Falcons improve to 7-12 (1-2 Mountain West).
Alex Baker (12-2) earned the win, giving up seven hits, striking out eight and walking two in the shutout. Sophomore Zach Williamsen (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk over 6.0 innings of work. Ben Yokley nabbed his first save of the season, surrendering one hit and walking one over the final 1.1 innings.
Junior Brett Bass and redshirt freshman Clayton Taylor both finished 2-for-4 at the plate, while sophomore Alex Mortensen went 2-for-3.
Air Force was led by Matt Thorne, who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Peter Johnson, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Garrett Custons also tallied a 2-for-4 showing for the day.
The Falcons put up their first run in the bottom of the second when Tyler Saleck doubled to right center to score Thorne from first. They added another run in the sixth on Johnson's RBI double down the right field line that plated Seth Kline, pushing it to the final score of 2-0.
