COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Omaha baseball team concluded its 10-game road stretch on Wednesday afternoon, falling 11-4 to Missouri at Taylor Stadium. The Mavericks are now 5-12 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Tigers improve to 9-12 (2-2 SEC).
The win went to MU reliever Griffin Goodrich (2-0), who threw 3.0 hitless, scoreless innings with one walk. The loss went to freshman Tyler Fox (1-1), who surrendered one run on three hits with a walk over 2.0 innings.
Junior Brett Bass finished 2-for-5 with a run scored, while freshman Cole Gruber went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Alex Schultz and redshirt freshman Clayton Taylor both finished 1-for-3 and each scored once, and senior Tyler Splichal added another run.
Kendall Keeton led Missouri with three hits on the day, while Dillon Everett, Dylan Kelly, Logan Pearson, Keaton Steele and Jake Ivory all tallied two hits apiece. Everett and Steele each drove in three runs, and Pearson topped the Tigers with three runs scored. As a team, Mizzou finished with 16 hits for the afternoon and capitalized on four Maverick errors.
Down 7-0 after the seventh inning, Omaha pushed across four runs on three hits in the top of the eighth. Bass led off the inning with a single to center, and Splichal walked to put two on for UNO. A passed ball put both runners in scoring position, and the Mavericks loaded the bases with a walk from Taylor. Schultz then placed an RBI single in center to score Bass for Omaha's first run of the day. Following a pitching change, a two-run single from Gruber allowed Splichal and Taylor to cross. UNO tacked on its fourth run with a groundout from redshirt freshman Connor Messinger, which scored Schultz and made it 7-4.
Mizzou finished it off in the eighth with a three-run outburst on three hits, bringing the final score to 11-4.
Omaha returns to action on Friday, March 29, visiting Creighton at TD Ameritrade Park. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com. The game will also be broadcast live on KVNO 90.7 HD-2 with student broadcasters Jared Meyer and Paul Dobler on the call.
