Simmons Garners All-League Honors

OMAHA, Neb. -- Junior guard Justin Simmons has earned the first All-Summit honor in Omaha men's basketball program history, as the conference office released the 2012-13 all-conference teams on Thursday. Simmons was named to the All-Summit Second Team and the All-Newcomer team.
In his first year as a Maverick, Simmons averaged a team-leading 16.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.7 blocks per game. He ranked fourth in the Summit League for scoring, second in field goals made (196) and eighth in free throw percentage (.781).Simmons had 11 20-plus point performances, including four straight from Jan. 24 to Feb. 2, and he scored in double figures in all but five games this season.
All-conference teams and superlatives were selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches, sports information directors and select media members.
Omaha capped its 2012-13 season last week. In their second year as a reclassifying Division I school and their first year as a member of the Summit League, the Mavericks finished with a record of 11-20 (6-10 Summit League).
