The UNO softball team will play a rare midweek Summit League series this week when it heads to Vermillion, S.D. to face South Dakota at Nygard Field. The series begins with a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and ends on Wednesday with one game at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available at OMavs.com.
Series History
UNO owns a 77-11 advantage in the all-time series, including a 3-1 record against the Coyotes last year. UNO split with USD at home on April 4, 11-0 (5 inn.) and 0-2. But the Mavs swept the Coyotes in Vermillion on April 24, 1-0 and 2-0.
The Teams
The Mavs enter the series with a 30-5 overall record and 8-1 mark in Summit League play. UNO is coming off its second straight Summit League home sweep, taking three games from IUPUI over the weekend. The Mavs' lone Summit League loss came at Kansas City on April 7. Omaha is in third place in The Summit League behind unbeaten North Dakota State (6-0) and Fort Wayne (4-0).
South Dakota is 25-14 overall and 8-3 in The Summit League. The Coyotes started 8-1 in conference play but lost both games of a doubleheader at home against Fort Wayne on Saturday. The first game of the series was canceled. USD came up just short in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, falling 2-1. The Coyotes then lost a 7-4 game in nine innings in the second game of the doubleheader. Prior to Saturday's defeats, the Coyotes had won 10 of their last 12 games. USD's only other conference loss came at IUPUI on March 22.
Last Time Out
Campbell Ditto was 2-for-3 with a two-run double and solo home run, and the UNO softball team finished the series sweep of IUPUI with a 3-0 win on Sunday at Westside Field at Westbrook. The Mavs didn't mess around, striking for two runs in the first inning before any outs were recorded. Allie Mathewson singled in the infield to start the game. Tara Trede bunted to the pitcher, but Mathewson beat the throw to second. Ditto then laced a pitch to right center to score both Mathewson and Trede for a 2-0 lead. The Mavs loaded the bases with one out in both the second and third innings but failed to come away with a run. IUPUI threatened in the top of the fourth inning, putting runners on second and third with no outs. But Dana Elsasser got a strikeout, a groundout to Trede at second base and a lineout to Amber Lutmer at first base to get out of the jam. Ditto boosted the Mavs in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run for a 3-0 lead. The freshman catcher lined a pitch from Cassie Vodde just over the wall in left field for her sixth home run of the season and second of the series. The win didn't come easily though. In the Jaguars' last at bat, two Maverick errors in the infield loaded the bases with two outs. But Elsasser got Ali Mosier to strike out looking to end the game. Elsasser (18-5) pitched the complete-game shutout and allowed four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Up Next
The Mavericks have this weekend off and don't return to action until April 27-28 when Western Illinois comes to Omaha for a three-game series. It will be the final Summit League home series for the Mavericks this season. UNO also hosts Drake in a non-conferenence series on May 1.

• Leadoff hitter Allie Mathewson paces the Mavs with a .385 batting average, 10 home runs, 32 RBIs, eight doubles, seven triples and 35 runs scored. She has a Summit League-best .811 slugging percentage.

• Yvon Minoque hits .400 with four home runs and 30 RBIs to lead the Coyotes. Matley Jones and Allie Daly both hit .323. Daly has a team-high 10 home runs with a Summit League-best 45 RBIs. Lindsey Boyd hits .315 and has scored 43 runs, most in The Summit League. She also has 30 stolen bases to lead The Summit League. Erica Denney is the Coyote ace, throwing a 2.29 ERA with a 14-6 record. Madison Frain has made 14 starts and has a 6-7 record and 3.88 ERA. South Dakota ranks first in the conference in runs, hits, doubles, home runs and ranks second in batting average and slugging percentage.
Climbing the School Record Charts
• Junior Amber Lutmer ranks second in school history with 32 career home runs. Leslie Svoboda (2005-08) holds the school record with 44 career homers.
• Lutmer is tied for 10th in career RBIs with 124. Svoboda also holds that record with 192.
• Senior Lindsay Redding is tied for ninth in career stolen bases with 41. Toni Novak (1994-97) holds the record with 113 career steals.
• Sophomore Tonya Peterson ranks third in school history with 19 hit by pitches. The school record is 22, set by Tiffany Jones from 1999-2002.
• Junior pitcher Dana Elsasser has a career ERA of 1.22 to rank fifth in school history.
• Elsasser's career opponent batting average of .198 ranks second all-time.
Ditto's Big Weekend
Freshman catcher Campbell Ditto hit .625 with two home runs, five RBIs, two doubles and three runs scored in the series sweep of IUPUI over the weekend. Ditto also had a team-best 1.625 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage. She also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate for the Mavericks while catching two shutouts. In a 4-0 win in game one on Saturday, Ditto was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. In a 5-2 win in game two, she went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run, a run scored and one walk. Her two-run homer in the third inning gave the Mavs a 2-1 lead. On Sunday, Ditto accounted for all three runs in the Mavs' 3-0 win in the series finale, hitting a two-run double in the first inning and a solo home run in the fourth inning. She finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. On the week, Ditto was 5-for-8 with five RBIs and three runs scored. She now has six homers on the season and hit homers in consecutive games for the first time in her career.
Elsasser Picks Up Two More Shutouts
Dana Elsasser pitched two complete-game shutouts against IUPUI over the weekend in 4-0 and 3-0 wins. She posted 16 strikeouts, two walks and allowed seven hits in 14.0 innings pitched. Elsasser leads The Summit League in ERA (1.39), wins (18) and saves (3). She now has 10 shutouts on the year.
