NORWALK, Calif./CRETE, Neb. - Sami Spenner set a new school record in the triple jump, and Amanda Vorthmann earned another first-place finish as the Omaha track & field team wrapped up a busy week of compeition.

The Mavericks competed in four meets in four days in both Nebraska and California.

At the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif., Spenner set the triple jump record with a jump of 40-02 3/4, besting her own mark set at Wayne State earlier this year.

Maja Mihalinec set a new personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 24.23, good for sixth place, and she took fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.83, just .02 off her personal best in the event.

Kathie-Lee Laidley finished in a tie for third in the high jump with a personal best of 5-08 1/2. She also was third in the long jump with a mark of 19-02 3/4.

Katarina Zarudnaya ran a season best time of 2:10.22 in the 800 meters, good for 13th place in a field of 110 runners. Lauren Psota tied her personal best in with a time of 2:15.22, putting her 49th.

At the Doane College Relays, Vorthmann, fresh off a school record in the 5,000 meters the night before, won the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:44.25. It was the first time she had run the race this year. Ashley Kildow came in second with a personal best time of 4:53.33.

Nicole Behm won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:16.89.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Celeste Robinson set a personal best with a time of 16.05 in the prelims and then took third in a time of 16.20.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Madeline Glesinger placed second, running a time of 1:07.49.

Among the other top eight finishers at Doane, Lianne McNaughton finished seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 147-08. McNaughton also set a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 42-08 1/4, good for ninth place.

Amanda Alexander came in ninth in the heptathlon with a score of 3,855. In so doing, she set personal bests in the javelin (118-02), high jump (4-11 3/4) and the 800 meters (2:44.98). She also would have had a PR in the long jump with her mark of 15-10 1/4, but the jump was not wind legal because there was no wind information.

Next week, the Mavericks travel east to two meets. They'll take part in the prestigious Drake Relays on April 24-27 and also compete in the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College on April 25-26.
