Mavs Host Western Illinois on Senior Day

The UNO softball team will host Western Illinois this weekend in its final Summit League home series of the season at Westside Field at Westbrook. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon, and the final game of the series is set for Noon on Sunday. UNO will honor its three seniors - Ashton Hughes, Molly Negrete and Lindsay Redding - between games on Saturday. Live stats will be available at OMavs.com.
Series History
UNO is 2-1 all-time against Western Illinois. The teams haven't met since 1981, when UNO claimed a 3-2 win over the Leathernecks at the Sooner Invitational. The Mavs have never hosted Western Illinois.
The Teams
The Mavs enter the series with a 32-5 overall record and 10-1 mark in Summit League play. UNO has won all three of its conference series and has swept two in a row. The Mavs are alone in second place behind unbeaten North Dakota State (12-0). UNO will not get a chance to try and dent the Bison's record, as the series between the two teams was canceled on March 16-17. The Mavericks are 6-0 at home this season.
Western Illinois enters the weekend with a 13-19 overall record and 7-12 mark in The Summit League. The Leathernecks are 4-6 in road games. Western Illinois swept South Dakota State last weekend in a three-game set. In other Summit League action, IUPUI and Kansas City each took two of three from WIU, and the Leathernecks were swept by North Dakota State in three games and by Fort Wayne in two.
Last Time Out
VERMILLION, S.D. - The UNO softball team swept a road doubleheader at Summit League foe South Dakota Tuesday, April 16, 1-0 and 6-3. The third game of the series was canceled because of inclement weather. The Mavs then had the weekend off. In game one against the Coyotes, Dana Elsasser threw her third straight shutout, allowing just four hits. Elsasser struck out six and walked none to extend her scoreless streak to 22.0 innings. The Mavs scored the only run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly by Campbell Ditto to score Allie Mathewson. In the game two victory, Molly Negrete was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Amber Lutmer was 2-for-2 with a two-run double in the sixth inning to spark the Mavs. Lutmer extended her reached base streak to 27 games in the process. Ashton Hughes pitched a complete game to improve to 8-0 in eight starts. She allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and a career-high 11 strikeouts.
Senior Sendoff
Fans are encouraged to stick around the ballpark after the conclusion of Saturday's first game or to arrive early before game two's scheduled 2 p.m. start time, as the Mavericks will honor their three seniors - Ashton Hughes, Molly Negrete and Lindsay Redding - with a short presentation.

The Mavericks close out the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, May 1 with a non-conference doubleheader against Drake at 5 p.m. UNO then hits the road for its last games of the season at Oakland on May 3-4.

• Leadoff hitter Allie Mathewson paces the Mavs with a .385 batting average, 10 home runs, 33 RBIs, eight doubles, seven triples and 38 runs scored. She has a five-game hit streak.
• Freshman catcher Campbell Ditto has climbed to a .368 average with hits in six straight games. She is 9-for-15 in that span with four runs scored and six RBIs. On the season, Ditto has six home runs, 10 doubles, four triples, 25 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
• Molly Negrete hits .344 with two home runs, 25 RBIs, 10 doubles, two triples and 19 runs scored.

• Sammy Marshall hits .500 with 30 runs scored and five triples to lead the Leathernecks. Megg Kelly hits .291 with four home runs and 19 RBIs. Monica Rondon provides a lot of power with eight home runs and 25 RBIs but hits just .217. Kelsey Michelini has started 20 games in the circle and is 7-10 with a 4.56 ERA. Kacyee Hart is 4-5 with a 6.14 ERA.
Climbing the School Record Charts
• Junior Amber Lutmer ranks second in school history with 32 career home runs. Leslie Svoboda (2005-08) holds the school record with 44 career homers.
• Lutmer is 10th in career RBIs with 126. Svoboda also holds that record with 192.
• Senior Lindsay Redding is tied for ninth in career stolen bases with 41. Toni Novak (1994-97) holds the record with 113 career steals.
