The UNO softball team concludes its season this week with a non-conference home doubleheader against Drake on Wednesday and its final conference series at Oakland this weekend. The Mavericks will host Drake in the Wednesday doubleheader at 5 p.m. at Westside Field at Westbrook, the final two home games for the Mavs in 2013. UNO then travels to Rochester, Mich., for a three-game set with Oakland on Friday and Saturday. The Mavs and Golden Grizzlies will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. (CT) on Friday and will finish with an 11 a.m. (CT) game on Saturday. UNO is not eligible for the conference tournament until 2015-16, so the Mavericks' season will end despite sitting in second place in the standings with a 12-2 record in The Summit League. Series History
Drake leads the all-time series with UNO, 4-2. The Bulldogs swept UNO last year on May 2 in Des Moines, 1-0 and 5-0. UNO outhit Drake 8-3 in the 1-0 loss but still came up short. Game two was scoreless until the fifth inning when Drake scored three runs. The Mavericks have never hosted the Bulldogs.
UNO will be meeting Oakland for the first time.
The Teams
The Mavs enter the week with a 34-6 overall record and 12-2 mark in Summit League play. UNO has won all five of its conference series and has swept three. The Mavs' two conference losses (to Kansas City and Western Illinois) both came in the series finale after the Mavs took the first two games of the series. The Mavs are 28-2 in doubleheader games this season with a 6-4 mark when playing only one game in a day. UNO is 26-1 in games played on Fridays and Saturdays and is 8-5 in games played Sunday through Thursday.
Drake is 26-19 overall and 12-7 in the MVC entering a doubleheader at home against Creighton on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are 1-0 against Summit League competition this season with a 1-0 win over North Dakota State on Feb. 8. Drake is 6-3 at home this season.
Oakland enters its final regular-season series with a 6-21-1 overall record and 1-13 mark in The Summit League. Despite being swept by Summit League leader North Dakota State last weekend, the Golden Grizzlies were competitive against the unbeaten Bison, falling 1-0 and 2-0 in the final games of the series.
Game No. 2,000
The Mavericks will be playing the 2,000th game in program history when they take the field against Drake in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader. UNO has an all-time record of 1,390-604-5 for an all-time winning percentage of .697 in 1,999 games. The Mavs' 2,000th game of the season would have occurred much earlier this season if not for nine canceled games.
Last Time Out
OMAHA, Neb. - The UNO softball team won its fifth Summit League series in as many tries over the weekend, taking two of three games from Western Illinois at Westside Field at Westbrook. The Mavs won the first two games on Saturday, 4-0 and 6-4, but fell victim to a Leatherneck comeback in the series finale, dropping a 4-3 heartbreaker in the capper on Sunday. Amber Lutmer had two home runs on Saturday to spark the Mavs in their wins. She now has a team-leading 12 home runs on the season and also extended her reached base streak to 30 games by reaching in all three games on the weekend.
About the Mavericks
• Leadoff hitter Allie Mathewson paces the Mavs with a .390 batting average, 11 home runs, 36 RBIs, nine doubles, seven triples and 42 runs scored. She has an eight-game hit streak.
• Freshman catcher Campbell Ditto has climbed to a .374 average, going 12-for-21 in her last nine games with six runs scored and eight RBIs. On the season, Ditto has seven home runs, 11 doubles, four triples, 27 RBIs and 33 runs scored. In conference games only, she is leading the Mavs with a .447 average, four home runs and 12 RBIs along with four doubles.
• Molly Negrete hits .333 with two home runs, 25 RBIs, 10 doubles, two triples and 20 runs scored.
• Junior Amber Lutmer has a team-high 12 home runs and 45 RBIs. She has reached base safely in 30 straight games dating back to Feb. 23. Lutmer is second in The Summit League in homers.
• In the circle, junior ace Dana Elsasser leads the Mavs with a 20-6 record and Summit League-best 1.30 ERA, along with three saves. Elsasser has 22 complete games and 12 shutouts, along with a combined shutout. Elsasser leads The Summit League in ERA, wins and saves. She pitched 32.1 straight scoreless innings from April 13 to April 28.
• Senior Ashton Hughes is 10-0 with a 1.76 ERA to rank third in The Summit League. She has one save, four complete games and one shutout, along with a combined shutout. Sophomore Kat Barrow is 4-0 with a 1.66 ERA in four starts, but an injury has limited her involvement in the rotation.
• The Mavs lead the conference in triples, slugging percentage and earned run average. UNO is second in opponent batting average, runs, home runs, on-base percentage and opponent batting average against. UNO is fourth nationally with a 1.45 ERA.
Scouting Drake
• Amy Pierce is the top hitter for the Bulldogs with a .357 average, nine home runs, 25 RBIs, 47 runs scored, 12 doubles and one triple. She leads the Bulldogs in batting average, runs, doubles, home runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and stolen bases. Nicole Randel hits .350 with six home runs and 35 RBIs. Hayley Nybo also has nine home runs with a team-high 37 RBIs and a .318 batting average. Jordan Gronewold has started 42 of 45 games in the circle with a 3.28 ERA and 16-9 record. Rebekah Schmidt has made just three starts but has a 10-10 record and 2.40 ERA. Gronewold typically starts games and is relieved by Schmidt in the middle innings. Gronewold has just one complete game and has pitched just 5.1 more innings than Schmidt.

• Erika Polidori leads the Golden Grizzlies with a .311 average to go with two home runs and 12 RBIs. Erin Galloway also has two home runs and 12 RBIs to go with a .273 average. Erin Kownacki is 4-9 with a 2.66 ERA, while Laura Pond is 0-10 with a .310 ERA. In conference play, Shannon Cleveland is Oakland's top hitter with a .270 average.
Climbing the School Record Charts
• Junior Amber Lutmer ranks second in school history with 34 career home runs. Leslie Svoboda (2005-08) holds the school record with 44 career homers.
• Lutmer is ninth in career RBIs with 130. Svoboda also holds that record with 192.
• Senior Lindsay Redding is tied for ninth in career stolen bases with 41. Toni Novak (1994-97) holds the record with 113 career steals.
• Sophomore Tonya Peterson ranks tied for first in school history with 22 hit by pitches, also held by Tiffany Jones from 1999-2002. Peterson has been hit by 13 pitches this season, which is a single-season school record. She set the record on Saturday against Western Illinois.
• Junior pitcher Dana Elsasser has a career ERA of 1.19 to rank fifth in school history.
• Elsasser's career opponent batting average of .199 ranks second all-time.
