KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Omaha women's golf team is in sixth place after the first two rounds of play at the Kangaroo Invitational hosted by Kansas City. The event is the first of the spring season for the Mavericks.
The Mavericks shot a two-round team total of 655 at the Shoal Creek Golf Club. The University of Oklahoma City leads with a score of 604, two strokes ahead of North Dakota State. Western Michigan is third at 618.
Senior Elizabeth Havekost leads the Maverick after the first two rounds with scores of 79-78 for a total of 157. That puts her in a tie for 14th overall. Brooke Thilges is second for UNO and in a tie for 26th overall with a 36-hole score of 164. That has her one stroke ahead of teammate Sophie Peters who carded scores of 85 and 79 on Monday, good for a tie for 28th.
Melyssa Doerr was fourth for the Mavs and in a tie for 38th overall with a day one score of 171. Katie Kesti rounded out the scoring for the Mavs with a two-round total of 177.
The final round begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
