KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Omaha women's golf team closed with a team score of 329 to finish in sixth place at the Kangaroo Invitational hosted by Kansas City on Tuesday.
In their first tournament of the spring, the Mavericks shot a three-round team total of 984 at the Shoal Creek Golf Club to finish six strokes ahead of Creighton and South Dakota. North Dakota State won the tournament with a score of 919 followed by Oklahoma City at 923 and Kansas City and Western Michigan which finished in a tie for third at 929.
NDSU's Amy Anderson was the individual medalist with a 54-hole score of 214.
Senior Elizabeth Havekost and junior Brooke Thilges tied for the UNO team lead with matching scores of 243, good for a tie for 22nd overall. Thilges closed with UNO's best round of the day at 80.
Sophie Peters was third for the Mavs and tied for 26th overall with a score of 245 that included 81 in round three. Katie Kesti shot 82 on Tuesday and finished at 259, fourth for UNO and in a tie for 46th overall.
Melyssa Doerr completed the scoring for the Mavericks with a three-round score of 263.
The Mavs will be closer to home next week when they compete in the Creighton Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16.
