Five Mavs Earn College Sports Madness All-League

OMAHA, Neb. - College Sports Madness announced its All-Summit League Teams on Friday, and Dana Elsasser, Campbell Ditto and Allie Mathewson were selected to the first team. Ashton Hughes and Amber Lutmer were picked to the second team.
In addition, Ditto was named Freshman of the Year, as she was in the official Summit League postseason awards released on Wednesday. College Sports Madness picked three Mavericks, more than any other team, to the first team after Omaha posted a 14-3 conference record and finished in second place.
Elsasser, arguably the most dominant pitcher in the league all season, finished with a 0.62 ERA in conference play, nearly half that of the next closest pitcher, and she was the only pitcher to allow no home runs in league games. She tied for the league lead with 21 wins on the season and posted an 8-3 record in conference play. However in her three conference losses she allowed 2.06 earned runs per game, while the Mavs scored just 1.33 runs per game in her losses. Elsasser held Summit League foes to a .173 batting average and pitched six shutouts, more than any other pitcher. She was a second-team pick by The Summit League coaches.
Ditto, voted the top freshman in The Summit League by both the coaches and College Sports Madness, capped one of the best freshman seasons in UNO history with a .376 batting average to finish fourth in The Summit League. A native of Wamego, Kan., Ditto tallied seven home runs, 30 RBIs, 34 runs, 11 doubles and four triples. In conference play, Ditto was third in batting average (.438), on-base percentage (.533) and fourth in slugging percentage (.771). The Maverick catcher earned Summit League Player of the Week on April 15. Over the final 12 games of the season, Ditto hit .516 with three home runs, 11 RBIs and three doubles. She boasted a team-best .903 slugging percentage and .610 on-base percentage during that stretch to earn first-team honors from College Sports Madness.
Mathewson, a sophomore center fielder from Papillion, posted a team-high .395 average in her first year at UNO to finish third in The Summit League. Serving as the Mavs' leadoff hitter every game, Mathewson brought power to the batting order with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs to rank second on the team in both categories. She scored a team-high 44 runs and tied for second nationally with seven triples. She also had nine doubles and recorded a Summit League-best .763 slugging percentage, 0.64 points better than the closest competitor. Mathewson was perfect defensively in center field for the Mavs and stole 10 bases in 11 attempts.
Lutmer, a second-team pick, finished the season with a .304 batting average, 12 home runs and 47 RBIs to finish second in the league in both categories. Lutmer ended the season on a 33-game reached base streak. The Omaha native reached base in every game played dating back to Feb. 23. For the season, she reached base at least once in 40 of 43 games.
Finally, Hughes earned second-team honors from The Summit League after a perfect season in which she won all 10 of her starts and one relief appearance for an 11-0 record. Hughes posted a 1.58 ERA on the season to rank third in The Summit League, and she was the only pitcher with a perfect record making more than six starts. Summit League opponents hit just .204 against Hughes.
