Buckley, Mortensen Named Academic All-League

OMAHA, Neb. – A week after earning first-team All-Summit League honors on the field, senior Cory Buckley and sophomore Alex Mortensen were both named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Buckley, who carried a 3.69 grade-point average, graduated with his bachelor's degree in criminology and criminal justice earlier this month. He led the league with a .391 batting average and had a 16-game hitting streak this season, the longest of any Maverick.
Mortensen holds a 3.91 GPA with a major in business management. He tallied a .318 batting average and was second in the conference with 15 doubles.
The team was voted upon by member institutions' faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. A total of nine-student-athletes were named to the team and honored for their academic and athletic performances this season.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
